Animal Testing
Animal testing is a very useful yet humanly wrong way of testing. Although it has helped us find cures or ways to fight such diseases or problems, it has also caused millions of animals their lives. Would you test on animals and cause them pain for results to find cures? This is the topic that is being argued now.
Some animals have very similar genetic structures as we do. “Animals are appropriate research subjects because they are similar to human beings in many ways.” From animal-testing.procon.org tells us that animals are similar to us so that’s why they are used as test subjects. Not just a single animal and its genetics but such as rabbits and they’re eyes, mice and they’re skin and most animal’s organs. This allows us to test on them to see what will help the problem that has occurred. For different problems we have different animals that fit the need for testing. It does cost millions of animal lives in a full pursuit of testing.
Rabbits are being tested for contact solutions for us humans. Since they’re eyes are so very similar we decided that we could test on the rabbits to see what would be harmless for us. “They include eye and skin irritancy tests, as well as tests which determine the internal effects of a substance” from navs.org, explain to us that these tests are long and dreadful while waiting for response and will cause internal reactions so we must learn from these tests. It’s dangerous for the rabbits but prevents us from hurting ourselves. After tested on most animals are killed, primarily for the disease testing though.

I think that animal testing is for the best of us for now. It is the only way we can get accurate information about medical conditions without hurting ourselves. Sadly animals must die in the research of it all but it’s for helping everything live better lives. Animal testing has impacted us greatly and we have made great cures ever since. As long as the issues still come the more we will need to fix them. Animal testing is for the best of us until there is an alternative solution.

One must remember that scientists who carry out animal testing are human to and most definitely do feel some sense of guilt using these animals for the sole reason to benefit mankind. However, “if there were good alternatives to animals that worked better or as well, for less money and hassle, scientists would use them” (Source D). Many believe that animals testing is wrong, but they must understand that at the current time there is no other option. It is difficult to find a different practice has been so substantial and has improved millions of lives and society as a whole. Animal testing, though the testing on animals may not be the best option, the after effects of testing has been successful over the past decades and will continue on this path as scientists and researchers gain more knowledge. There may be a point in time that society becomes so better off that there would be no more need to test
Over 100 Million animals are burned, crippled, poisoned and abused in testing Labs every year. Animals are used to test the safety of products, advance scientific research, and develop models to study disease and to develop new medical treatments all for the sake of mankind. Animals should not be used for scientific research because animal testing is inhumane, other testing methods now exist, and animals are very different from human beings.
Animal testing is not going to stop because humans the results of it. What can be done to lessen the amount of animal testing done is to put more research into stem cells. With more breakthroughs in stem cell research, scientists can create useable organs to discover cures. Until these breakthroughs are accomplished, animal testing is the best choice the human race has to survive its own
In my opinion, I think that if there is an alternative way in getting the same test results, then animal testing should be avoided. If the use of animals is required in order to obtain more knowledge of medicine then I believe that the welfare of the animals should be a priority of the researchers and if the well-being of the subjects is compromised then measures should be taken to correct these mistakes. I am not an advocate of abusing animals in order to advance research, but I do believe that the use of animals in research studies is extremely beneficial. Without the use of animal testing researchers would not have as many answers and solutions to problems that we have, such as sickness.
In a nutshell, it can be said that animal testing an extremely cruel was of testing drugs to improve the quality of human lives As a result, animal testing carries a lot of damaging impacts with it. We need to see an end to the suffering of innocent animals in the name of science! A more humane approach is most definitely
Every year thousands of animals are euthanized due to animal testing such as cosmetic testing, medical testing, and dissection. (A Critical Look at Animal Experimentation) (Types of Animal Testing) Some of the things we use every day such as; make up, soap, furniture polish, and varieties of cleaning supplies, are tested on rabbits, guinea pigs, dogs, cats, and other animals. (Animal Testing) Cosmetic testing is used to test a product and its ingredients, medical testing finds cures for different illnesses; and dissection is used to help high school students in science classes have a better understanding of the class or students undergoing the medical field in college. (Animal Experimentation) Animal testing is not required by law; it is only used to protect companies from consumer lawsuits, provided new research for diseases, and provide a visual learning experiment for students. (A Critical Look at Animal Experimentation) It has been proven that there are more reliable and less expensive alternatives to animal testing, such as; computer models and cell and tissue tests. Animal experimentation should be eliminated because it is an inhumane method for testing purposes.
Animal testing has brought some very important medical techniques and products within our grasps. However, there are many pros and cons, and the subject will continue to be a sensitive one. We as humans have a responsibility to respect and protect the animals as well as each other. Think of your family pet. Animals do have personalities and feelings. Think of your loved ones. Humans need medical care to survive. This is a hard issue to make decisions about. Human health is important, but we must strive to establish ways of improving human health without involving helpless animals.

Animal testing has been used for developing and researching cures for medical conditions. For example, the polio vaccine, chemotherapy for cancer, insulin treatment for diabetes, organ transplants and blood transfusions are just some of the important advances that have come from research on animals (“Animal Testing”). Consuming animals for research benefits in developing various treatments and also benefits in discovery better methods for cures. According to the article “Animal Testing”, it says that the underlying rationale for the use of animal testing is that living organisms provide interactive, dynamic systems that scientists can observe and manipulate in order to understand normal and pathological functioning as well as the effectiveness of medical interventions. It relies on the physiological and anatomical similarities between humans and other animals (MacClellan, Joel). Meaning that animals have the same body components and features as humans and is the best thing to research on to better understand the human development. Even though several argue that animal testing is harming the animals, one has to think back to all the benefits that has come from it. There may be a little remorse for endangering animal lives, but realizing how far medicine has come makes it worth the while.
This is just one of the countless barbaric tortures forced upon animals. Studies show that in 1994, over 3,500 animals were killed in the United Kingdom, with almost another 21,000 more used in France for cosmetic purposes only (Celebrities, 95). These numbers reflect totals in only two countries. Research by Congress estimated that as many as 22 million animals are used annually for experimental research (Testing, 96). Peter Singer, an author and philosophy professor, “argues that because animals have nervous systems and can suffer just as much as humans can, it is wrong for humans to use animals for research, food, or clothing” (Singer 17). Do animals have any rights? Is animal experimentation ethical? These are questions many struggle with day in and day out in the ongoing battle surrounding the controversial topic of animal research and testing, known as vivisection. Throughout centuries, medical research has been conducted on animals.
Animals should not be victims of vivisection when they have just as much of a right to be here as we do. The money used for animal testing could be used for a project with better potential. Animal testing should not be acceptable considering all the alternatives that technology has the power to do. The abuse of animals in medical experiments is a flaw on humanity, the sooner we end it, the better.
The people claim that, animal testing infringes animal’s rights, make animal suffering in the experiments, and some of animal experiments may never useful to human beings. This is true, but we cannot stop animal testing. According to the article “Facts about Animal Research” by Cook (2006), the smallpox have been disappear from the earth because scientists get vaccines from cows. Also, the scientists get insulin, which is the only drug, which can control diabetes, from dogs and fishes. Many medicines are related to medical animal experiments, we cannot give up medical animal experiments. In addition, people consider that animal are suffering in the experiments. But according to the author Harish (2011), there are 44% of animals were used in experiments, which involve pain. What’s more, most of animals are get pain relief drugs in the experiments. In conclusion, animal testing has been overused for too long. Nothing essential has been the outcome of it, and no scientific breakthrough has stopped anything from damaging us. The many, many animals are mistreated, many times killed. They need to begin to establish a more protective act, just like the AWA, however this time, it should strive to protect the majority of the animals used, so they can live safely. Finally, if we are able to find and develop successful alternatives to all animal testing, it might be gone forever. If all of these things can come together and make it happen, we may be able to see the day where all animals are treated ethically and with sheer, utter, respect.
For many years there has been controversy whether or not animals should be tested on between scientists and animal right supporters. It is very debatable if animals should be tested on when a cure for a disease could be found from testing on animals. From my own personal view I have a huge heart for animals, but if we can not find other alternatives, and is possible we can find cures for diseases, then animals may be used for research, but only for medical reasons.
