Animal Testing Benefits

People has been using animal testing for various purpose over decades. Animal testing usually occurs in biological experiment and medical testing. Animal testing refers to the use of non-human animals in experiments that stick to control variables which affects the behavior or biological system under study. Recently there are controversy on the morality issues on animal testing, especially newly found medicine that hasn’t been verified by clinical testing. Animal will be the first victim on these dangerous experiment. However, I suggest that animal testing are beneficial for medical purposes, based on three aspects: it’s contribution, appropriation on research topics and the comparison to human being. In this essay, I will first talk about…show more content…
For newly found medicine, they have to pass a list of testing before publishing to the market. One of the most important testing is animal testing. Animal testing allows researcher to study the animal’s reaction on the medicine, as well as finding new direction on inventing new medicine focusing on special disease. Nowadays, there are different types of diseases, so it may need animals to research some cure. Researchers often targeting breast cancer, brain injury, malaria, multiple sclerosis on several experimental animals which helps them to study the treatment for these diseases. Without the help of animal testing, the researchers are limited to their study and unable to explore more on medical reaction . According to the California Biomedical Research Association (CBRA), they point out “Scientist use animal to study health problem and assure the safety of new medical treatment”. This prove that animal is playing an important role in the development of new medicine. Moreover, the animal helps research to identify more health problem which human never encounter of. “Medical research need to understand the problems before they can develop ways to treat them” This can be done by animal testing and by using animal instead of humans, they bring us more possibility on diseases. This allows medical researchers to have more detail research and accurate result on the medicine. Therefore, animal…show more content…
Some of the animals are similar to human such as chimpanzees, mice and rat. The majority of experimented animals are mammal, which brings us a more accurate result. According to the article “Why are Animal Necessary in Biomedical Research” by CBRA, most of the study model “are biologically similar to humans”. They pointed out “chimpanzees shares more than 99% of DNA with human” and “mice shares more than 98% with humans”. This brings us a fact that animal testing will be the second accurate medical testing other than human. Researchers are able to find probably the same problem that a human will encounter when they consume the medicine. It will also be a good practices for them as they may arlert some consequences that they have never encounter during animal testing. Other than that, the study model usually have the same set of organs such as heart, kidneys, lungs. Their organs functions also similar to human, which allows researchers to examine the reaction closely and as accurate as it is. The article therefore concluded that “animals are susceptible to many of the same conditions and illnesses” In addition, some of the treatment is tested on these animals because we are unable to do human experimentation due to high risk and involved in ethical issues. If the experiment
