Throughout the years animal rights groups and organizations have frowned upon animal experiments. Animal testing has been thought to be inhumane and cold-hearted to animals. Because of these accusations medical researchers have to suffer threats from individuals and the media. If animal testing weren’t allowed would that be a drawback in advancement in medical research? Animal testing is beneficial to people because these trails lead to improvements in medical research.
The last way animals are used for is genetic experiments to help scientist figure out how different genes work (“Animal Research”). Humans benefit a lot by using animals for experimentation. Without the animals it would be very difficult to find new medical and to save a lot of people’s lives. Animals are very necessary to save the lives of not only other animal... ... middle of paper ... ...d 3,000 different groups. Certain animal rights groups have acted out with violence against people who believe that animal experimentation is not a bad thing.
Findings from animal experiments can potentially cure numerous medial issues such as cancer or the common cold. However, there is controversy, mostly ethical, surrounding the methods used. Animal experiments used in biological research have helped make many advancements in human medicine. Through these experiments when has achieved, a decrease in infant mortality, longer lifespan, and an increase in the quality of life (American Medical Associaton 3). Through indirect of direct experimentation, almost all medical advances can be traced back to research through animals.
Animals Rights Is it fair that animals have to go through abuse neglect and torture every day over a simple fact that humans do not believe animals do not have rights? Humans use and kill animals for food or clothing. Because people or humans think of animals as property so they do as they please with animals Some people believe that animals should be treated in the same way humans are and have familiar rights, where others think that it is more important to use them as they desire for food and medical research. This Paper will discuss both points of view. With and explanation of animals, people believe it is acceptable for several reasons.
One of the most touchy aspects of our relationship with animals is the use of animals in laboratory sciences. Some manufactures of cosmetics and household products still conduct painful and useless tests on live animals, even though no law requires them to do so. Some people, called anti-vivisectionists, are at one extreme in their concern. They want an abolition of all experiments on live animals. At the other extreme there are those who say that it is quite all right for us to do whatever we like to animals.
The use of animal testing has been beneficial, discovering many different medications that have saved human lives. However, animal testing is an unethical practice going on in society. In my opinion, the problems of animal testing outweigh the benefits. Morally, animal testing is a cruel and inhumane practice used in countless experiments. Animals have no voice in whether they want to be used for testing or not.
The Advantages of Animal Experimentation It is the general consensus of the populous that it would be unethical to experiment on humans first, and that some other method of safety testing is required prior to human experimentation. Animal testing was found to be this step. In fact, animal models provide a means for scientists to discover new treatments and drug... ... middle of paper ... ...imal experimentation did. Furthermore, I agree that the use of animals models is unreliable because of the stress lab animals are under, the fact that they are poor predictors of human results and that the test populations are not representative of the populations that will be receiving the products. I am also in agreement that animal experimentation is immoral.
Animals Should be used for Research Testing Animal rights activists continually oppose the medical research that involves animals as test subjects. Too many people have come to the conclusion that medical researchers are cruel and inhumane. In many cases the good of the research is overlooked and the bad is used. Even though many people may believe that animal research is morally wrong, animal research should continue because it is critical to helping heal human lives. There is not yet an available alternate to animal research.
The foremost reason people are against animal testing is because animals are tested without their consent. Many animals go through pain, discomfort, and even death in these experiments. Some people who support animal testing refer to the fact that animal testing has obviously made many major medical discoveries. Also, support of animal testing is aimed to the protection of humans. Most scientists believe that humans are superior to animals, and that animals should be tested, although they do not necessarily agree with it (Dance).
In the next few paragraphs, both sides of the argument will be expressed by the supporters. A well known scientist named Neal D. Barnard said," The use of animals for research and testing is only one of many investigative techniques available. We believe that although animal experiments are sometimes intellectually seductive, they are poorly suited to addressing the urgent health problems of our era, such as heart disease, cancer, stroke, AIDS and birth defects." He goes on further to say that animal experiments can not only mislead researchers but even contribute to illnesses or deaths by failing to predict any toxic effect on drugs. The majority of animals in laboratories are used for genetic manipulation, surgical intervention or injection of foreign substances.
