Many may wonder or not understand what the Russian Revolution was about. George Orwell’s classic, Animal Farm, is an allegory for the Russian Revolution of 1917. An allegory is a story in which things, actions, etc. are symbolic (Webster’s New Pocket Dictionary, page 9). In Animal Farm, there is a farm where all the animals are being run by pigs. The animals go to desperate measures for their mean human farmer, Mr. Jones, not to return. They do not want to be led by a human, who does not care about the animals. With pigs running the Animal Farm, a lot of things get complicated. The main leader, Napoleon becomes greedy, later becoming a lot like their old human farmer (Animal Farm, George Orwell). In Orwell’s Animal Farm, Joseph Stalin, from the Russian Revolution is represented by Napoleon. Napoleon’s characteristics include greed, being controlling, and always finding a way to get whatever he wants (Animal Farm, George Orwell). The main cause of the Russian Revolution was major changes in classes which had already been formed before the revolution (History of the Russian Revolution, Leon Trotsky, xvi). Before the revolution began, people were already dissatisfied with the Russian system of government (thinkquest.org). The class system was not doing as it should. This means that there was no sense of class system anymore (thinkquest.org). People had just lost control and there were too many other issues for people to focus on the class system. One of the issues was that large loads of taxes were being paid (thinkquest.org). Even with the people already rebelling Tsar, the defeat of the Russo- Japanese war made the people even more rebellious toward Tsar (thinkquest.org).Tsar was the monarch of Russia before the 1917 Russ... ... middle of paper ... ...s. Based on Orwell’s portrayal of Stalin as Napoleon, it is evident that they were people with bad and selfish intentions. The main cause of the Russian Revolution was determined by major changes in the psychology of classes which had formed themselves before the revolution (History of the Russian Revolution, Leon Trotsky, xvi). As a result of the Russian Revolution, Communism began spreading worldwide (Fernholz, Academic.mw.edu). During the Russian Revolution, Stalin took control of the Soviet Union for longer than twenty years, and started to spread Communism (biography.com). George Orwell portrays Stalin as Napoleon, who is a leader and commander (Animal Farm, George Orwell) Hopefully, people will learn to make decisions for themselves and not let other people make decisions for them to avoid anything like the Russian Revolution ever happening again.
