Animal Experimentation Should Be Banned

Imagine your whole life in a cage. You are always weak and sick because scientists are slowly poisoning you. That is exactly what happens to animals. Every year about 100 million animals are tortured. Whether it is being burned, crippled, abused, or poisoned, it happens every year to supposedly “support the advancement of science” (“11 Factss” 1). These “scientific experiments” have been going on since 500 BC (“Animal Testing - ProCon.org” 1). There are other ways to complete this research and using animals is disgusting and wrong. It needs to stop!

Animal experimentation should be banned in order to ensure their safety. To better understand animal experimentation, we need to know what it is, why it is wrong, what the experiments do to the animals, and how they affect the animals lives. Also, we need to learn what we could do instead of mistreating these animals as an alternative to this type of testing.

Animal Experimentation is when animals such as cats, dogs, mice, guinea pigs, rabbits, primates, and others are used to test new products, study human disease, and help in the development of new drugs (Harm and Suffering 1). They are also used for medical treatments, to determine the toxicity of medications, to check the safety of products destined for human use, and other biomedical, commercial, and health-care uses (Pro-Con.org 1). With testing animals, scientists hope to get information out of the animals in order to help us in the long run.

Animal Experimentation is obviously wrong for many reasons. First off, the experiment on the animals are very harmful to the animals. Pain is an understatement in the animals case considering that almost all the time they have no pain medication. Another reason is the physiological dif...

...some shocking statistics. In the US alone around 1,134,693 animals are used. 29,959 of all of those are in Wisconsin. Arizona leads the number of animals with 130,029. The least amount of animals is 183 from Hawaii. If you think about it, those are some pretty big numbers to think about. Even if Hawaii only uses 183 animals, that is still 183 animals that could have perfectly happy lives roaming around in the open and being their animals selves (Pro-Con.org 5).

Just on the side note, me having to write this paper is pathetic. If animals are being tortured it is wrong. If you are one of the people who think all of this is ok, please take a look at yourself. This should be done to you instead of them, you are looking at a heartless, inhumane, society. So good job everyone, give yourself a pat on the back for creating a cruel, insensitive world we that we live in.
