Banker, Andy Dufresne, is convicted of the murder of his wife and her lover, although he strongly proclaims his innocence. He receives a double life sentence at Shawshank State Prison, where Ellis ‘Red’ Redding picks him to crack under pressure first. Andy is quickly brought to the terrible realisation of his prison, including a corrupt warden, brutal guards and warped inmates, asserting their dominance with rape and beatings. Andy, however, does not fall, and remains hopeful of his innocence. Andy uses his education and banking skills to do tax returns and win over the warden and guards, revealing the warden’s illegal business structures in the process.
