Military Pilot Many of the American people think it would be fun and handy to become a pilot. However, the ones that are serious about becoming a pilot, and a good one at that, go into the military to train. Military pilots are a very important part of our military’s force. Therefore, the pilots must be trained very well, and the military must kick out the pilots who are not qualified, so it is easy to see how hard it might be to become a military pilot. Physical Requirements To join the Air Force and become a military pilot, you must be able to pass several different requirements. One of these is the physical requirements. If you cannot pass the minimum physical requirements of the Air Force, all of your hopes of becoming a military pilot will be thrown out the window. These are the minimum requirements for the men: a 2 mile run must be completed in 16:45 minutes or less, and the 1.5 mile run must be completed in 11:57 min or less. The trainees must be able to complete 45 push-ups or more, and 50 plus sit-ups (Smith 1). Mental Requirements The physical requirements aren’t the main things that keep people from becoming a pilot. The grueling mental requirements are what crack down on the trainees. Pilots go through things like being 15,000 feet in the air, which can play tricks on your mind. Pilots go through stressful times in the air such as: holding down their food while flying, making sure they read the radar correctly, and knowing they are a big target for the enemy. Medical Requirements If you can pass the mental and physical requirements of the Air Force, you only have one more thing you must be able to pass, the medical requirements.
