Anders Behring Breivik learned shooting from Call of Duty. He was the one who committed The Norway July, 2011, massacre. There are many people who think ban all violent video games. People who played these kinds of games started to play them from an early age. After seeing children play violent games, someone will want to fully support preventing these kinds of games from getting into children’s hands. Violent video games can be somewhat good, and the game industry is providing great economic growth in different parts of the world. Regardless of this economic growth, children experience educational adversity as result of playing games Time and attention are two keys elements for students to succeed. Playing violent video games inhibit a student’s capability to learn. Usually, children are not satisfied with anything they have. Increasing the number of hours playing means kids cannot stop playing after just one hour. Research on this major problem gives some number that should be used to prevent this problem from happening in the future. According to Douglas A. Gentile, Ph.D, an associate professor of psychology, declared that in the middle of 1980’s the average amount of time they had been playing video games was quite low, on average about two hours spent on playing per week for girls and on average boys spent four hours of playing video games. In contrast, in 2012 he ends with average the girl playing about 5.5 hours per week and boy about 13 hours per week. As long as children grow, their desire for playing games expands. After children get used to playing at a limit they consider as normal, it can take them out of studying life. Not only are video games time consuming, also they can take attention ... ... middle of paper ... ...ar-sighted it and exophthalmia. Finally, video gamers have a lack of ability to control their anger. Grant James, in his book Australian Psychologist, take a position in anger by mentioning how people change performance after playing violent video games for 20 minutes. Changing in scores in the game for players increased anger after playing a short game. As player deeply focused on his or her game, intensity have increased. Learning and achievements on school need attentiveness on their requirements. Because there are huge competitions on successes in our new life, there should be some sensation on children and their school. Preventing violent video games in children’s hands should be taken extremely seriously. It is handled at childhood age and it can perish in future generations. If the problem is not solved now, it will get more complicated in the future.
Video games are widely popular as a form of entertainment for young children and teenagers in the United States, and many of these games contain forms of violence. Because this causes exposure to such graphic images for many children, there has been a concern that these violent forms of entertainment affect these children. Numerous studies conducted by groups of psychologists have been directed on this particular issue, leading to evidence both for and against this claim. This is an issue which parents should acknowledge, as it greatly impacts their children. Therefore, parents must become aware of the issue of violence in video games and monitor their children’s access to such games because history as well as numerous studies and statistics to have shown that they have negative effects on children, causing desensitization due to the exposure to such intense images.
The allegation that videogames cause violent behavior in children has been present as long as videogames themselves. Some researchers said that the Sandy Hook shooter, Adam Lanza, was one intense gamer. “Seung-Hui Cho, the Virginia Tech Shooter was seen by his roomates as odd because he never joined them in video games.”(Beresin) This debate will continue to go on in this country as long as there are horrific crimes that occur. There is much written in the research regarding this issue, and many differing views. The research that is presented in the next few paragraphs supports the theory that it is not the graphic video games that produce aggressive behavior, but other factors in a child’s life that create violent actions.
Since the 1970 video games have become more popular than ever before. Generating 11.7 billions of dollars of sells every year or more, the video game industry is considered one of the largest industries in this century. However, video games have been a topic of controversy. With the sales of violent video games going up and the increased violence in schools and teenagers, video games are always to blame. Many people speculate that video games are the cause on why many teenagers have developed aggressive and violent behavior, are desensitize to violence, and the increase violence in schools and public places. In contradiction, video games have little or no fault in teenagers’ violent behavior and shouldn’t always be blamed.
Gentiles explain the positive and negative effects of video games on children. Gentile warns that kids are spending more time playing a video game every day and parents need to do something about it before it goes out of hand. Gentile also does several types of surveys and experiments on children one that plays for eight hours while another plays for five hours. The author agrees that kids today are spending excessively much time in front of a game system and parents are not doing anything about it to stop it. Gentile also suggests that if parents do not do anything about it bad thing will happen to their kids including having aggressive behavior.
After a long school day, most students find themselves mentally exhausted by an intensive curriculum. Rightfully so, most developing teenagers make an attempt to find an activity to release some stress, and veer away from the rigorous, mental activity of the school day. Hence, most of these children turn to video games. With the recent increase of technological sources, video games has acted as yet another option for after school activity. With admiration for brutal, destructive, and harsh forms of entertainment, it can be seen how violent games can affect the behaviors of young men and women who are constantly exposed.
One article points out that video games have a big impact on children’s lives and that many of the games played are violent. Researchers have found that “nearly all children spend time playing video games” and studies have found that “8th graders spent an average of 17 hours per week playing video games” (Tamborini 336). Moreover, 68% of the most popular video games contain violence (Tamborini 336). So it is clear that many children have access to violent video games and they have a big impact on their lives simply because of the amount of time spent playing them.
At this day in age we bask in the luxury of having easy access to advanced technology at our disposal. From the World Wide Web, to cell phones, music, movies and video games the human race has thought of any and everything to keep us entertained. Over the years studies have shown reasonable concerns regarding the long-term effects of video games. These games can desensitize gamers to real life violence, which is usually seen in the younger crowd. The studies especially hit on the games containing player-on-player violence. Though these games are extremely entertaining and can get kids to settle down for a while, if not properly supervised, they can produce adverse effects. Other studies have shown that video games can be used as way to yield positive outcomes such as, good problem solving skills, cooperation in a group and the ability to flow. Although there has been psychological research on children learning through the actions of others some believe that children are automatically able to distinguish between what is just a game and what is reality. The longer they are allowed on their game system the more they become convinced that their games are real. Some researchers believe violent video games can channel the aggression of the child but the parents are to blame for what happens to the child after playing an excessive amount over a period of time. Children can become preoccupied with these violent video games which have been proven to be the cause of poor social skills, uncontrollable aggression and a false reality.
Video games are electronic sports which involves user interface and user interactivity. They generate a visual response which helps to provide excitement and entertainment. Video games are played on computers, televisions, or any kind of device with a display screen. People play video games for fun and also because some games are more productive and useful. With growth in technology video games have become very popular in children. Those games can be informative and a brain-builder for children but at the same time it may be so violent that they not only become the reason for the children to be destructive but also vigorously increase anti-social behavior.
By far the largest concern of technology today is video games. There have been so many experiments and studies to try and figure out if video games have a negative or positive effect on our children. A growing body of research is linking violent video game play to aggressive cognitive, attitudes and behaviors (D.A. Gentile, 2004). Video games can obviously be dangerous for our children causing aggression, bad performances in school and obesity. Although we cant blame all of these problems on the use of video game...
Restriction on video games will not decrease the amount of violent acts occurring around the world. Violent acts occur due to the access of weapons, unstableness of the perpetrator, or anger built up such as revenge. In David Sonboly’s case, he had access to weapons and was mentally unstable. Although the other argument remains that since he played violent video games, he must have acquired a negative behavioral effect from the video game. However, it was proven that he was inspired by Norwegian mass killer, Anders Breivik, so this proves that it wasn’t just video games that inspired him. With this being said, many boys and young men play video games according to Christopher Ferguson. If video games did in fact cause violent acts, then there
Since the Early 70’s video games have been giving a bad name. Parents state that video games rot the minds of children and are influencing them do be violent. These accusations are far from the truth. In my research I found that there are many positive effects of gaming. Some of these effects are increased skills, creativity, general knowledge, and also help those in need. Parents can also take proper precautions and look into a game before buying it to see if it meets the criteria discussed in this paper.
Video Games have been accused of making youth violent and aggressive, making people isolate themselves from society, and for lowering the attention span and the ability to concentrate in youth. These claims have yet to be supported by several well organized studies and have never been more than a correlation to any of these claims, and in fact have been disproven on several occasions. Adam Eichenbaum (2014), author contributing to the American Journal of Play, concluded a discussion on the research on video games say that “Today’s video games are much more than entertainment. They are also weapons in the fight against declining mental capacities in old age. They promote job-related skills. And they are a model of how to teach children complex and difficult tasks and abilities. As with any technology, video games are neither intrinsically good nor intrinsically bad.” (pg. 67) Video games are not the waste of time that they are accused of being, nor are they damping the development of today’s youth. If anything is to be said about video games is that in them lays a great potential for good; that video games serve as tools for people who want to make a change in society, whether the changes are positive or negative lie in the hands of those that choose to use video games as tools. These are not unrealistic or histrionic claims; video games, after all, are more than just
After all, the researchers have proved that violent video games made a negative influence on children brain like thinking skills which made their behaviour aggressive, on their physiological energy leading to segregation in the family, and on the parenting role of the parents. Violence, at this point in time, is definitely part of video games. Many of the newer games are becoming even more violent, so it is important to demand to prevent the selling of the violent video games, in order to protect the children from all forms of violence and to keep them safe.
The violent video games are popular in a school. Parents can best protect their children by providing limits or be finding another interesting activities.
Most people think that video games are harmful and waste of time. As a result, the main question of the research is how video games can influence on children and many minor questions come to mind about video games: Do video games influence a child’s psychological development and make them more aggressive and violent? Do video games affect a child’s grades? What are the influences of video games on children? Many people don’t have much information about video games and how video games may effect on people’s behavior, health and mind.
