Research Question
What are the similarities and differences of the respiratory system in three different vertebrate animals (rat, fish and frog) by investigating the body system and their evolutionary development to suit their habitats?
Introduction
The respiratory system are the organs in the body that supports the body to inhale and exhale; moreover, in organism, this process is accomplished by reseparating. The main purpose of the breathing is to deliver oxygen to the body and expelling carbon dioxide. The main organs in the respiratory system are the lungs; however, others organs such as the nose, trachea, bronchi, bronchioles, pharynx, larynx and diaphragm supports to make everything work, each organ has their jobs in the respiratory system.
Lungs: The location of the lungs are inside the chest and are protected by the ribcage, covered in a coating named the pleura. Alveoli and each has a mesh of capillaries and is also considered as the location where exchanging of oxygen and carbon dioxide occurs.
Nose: The nose contains two pathways and the nose have a pair of nostrils. The nose is important to the respiratory system because it has a large percentage of air we breathe entries through the nose
Trachea: The location of the Trachea is underneath the pharynx and larynx; the function of this organ is to carry oxygen from the throat in the lungs. The trachea is fenced with fifteen to twenty C-shaped rings of cartilages which is protection and keeps the trachea open.
Bronchi: The lower end of the trachea is split into two Bronchi tubes that assists to transport air to its destination, the lungs. Inside the lung, the bronchi divided in different directions which forms tertiary bronchi.

... Diaphragm
- not used for respiration, respiration is essential for the larynx because the sounds a rat uses to communicate are generated by the passage of air
- can be tightened or loosened to create the squeaks and other noises common
- diaphragm- below the lungs and looks like a sheet of muscle, the diaphragm helps aid the movement of lungs as it breathes
 Lungs and Ribs
- lungs are primary organ of the respiratory system
- these two sacs that sit on either side of the heart and fill with air during inhalation
- each sac contains various branches of bronchiole and microscopic units called alveoli
- the alveoli helps assist with cardiac respiration
- walls of the lungs are quite thinly lined with pleura so that blood and gas pass through and are absorbed properly
- lungs require the protection of the rib cage, which is a series of bones that encase the lungs
