Analyzing a Booklet The first booklet/leaflet that I have analysed is the "Patient Information Booklet" from the Leukaemia Foundation. I must determine the purpose of the booklet, the content, the writing style and layout & how the layout could be improved. Purpose: The purpose of the booklet is to give as much information and advice on the various types of leukaemias and associated blood diseases to patients. It lets patients know about the types of treatment that they are likely to receive and it informs them of what their disease could be and gives them detailed information about the symptoms and how the disease works. The Content: The booklet is full of different information about leukaemia. It informs the patient about where leukaemia begins, what leukaemia is, what causes leukaemia, how leukaemia is diagnosed, the types of leukaemia, the symptoms, the treatment, the supportive care that is available and gives information about the leukaemia Foundation Charity. The booklet makes good use of well labelled images and diagrams to support the text which helps the reader understand what they are reading. The Writing Style & Layout: This booklet is very formal all the way through, the language is formal and seems to be aimed at an older reader, the lack of colour also adds to the formality. It is in black and white so there is no colour as such, however it does make use of different fonts and font sizes and different shades of grey which prevent it from looking boring and un-imaginative.
In Cold Blood, a novel written by Truman Capote and published in 1966, is, though written like fiction, a true account of the murder of the Clutter family of Holcomb, Kansas in 1959. This evocative story illuminates new insights into the minds of criminals, and how society tends to act as a whole, and achieves its purpose by utilizing many of the techniques presented in Thomas C. Foster’s How to Read Literature Like a Professor. In In Cold Blood, Capote uses symbols of escape and American values, and recurring themes of egotism and family to provide a new perspective on crime and illustrate an in-depth look at why people do the things they do.
In Federalist 10 James Madison argued that while factions are inevitable, they might have interests adverse to the rights of other citizens. Madison’s solution was the implementation of a Democratic form of government. He felt that majority rule would not eliminate factions, but it would not allow them to be as powerful as they were. With majority rule this would force all parties affiliate and all social classes from the rich white to the poor minorities to work together and for everyone’s opinion and views to be heard.
In the book “look me in the eyes” by John Elder Robison, he talks about his life with Asperger’s and the challenged he faced as a kid. The first thing I noticed when reading the book that John Elder had a hard time looking people in the eye. Which is very common with kids with Asperger’s. During the time her was a student teachers didn’t know what this was so they handled the situation differently by yelling at him trying to force him to look them in the eye. If I was the teacher I would go about this situation differently I would try to figure out why he can’t look me in the eyes. To start, the novel Fahrenheit 451 describes the fictional futuristic world in which our main protagonist Guy Montag resides. Montag is a fireman, but not your typical fireman. In fact, firemen we see in our society are the ones, who risk their lives trying to extinguish fires; however, in the novel firemen are not such individuals, what our society think of firemen is unheard of by the citizens of this futuristic American country. Instead firemen burn books. They erase knowledge. They obliterate the books of thinkers, dreamers, and storytellers. They destroy books that often describe the deepest thoughts, ideas, and feelings. Great works such as Shakespeare and Plato, for example, are illegal and firemen work to eradicate them. In the society where Guy Montag lives, knowledge is erased and replaced with ignorance. This society also resembles our world, a world where ignorance is promoted, and should not be replacing knowledge. This novel was written by Ray Bradbury, He wrote other novels such as the Martian chronicles, the illustrated man, Dandelion wine, and something wicked this way comes, as well as hundreds of short stories, he also wrote for the theater, cinema, and TV. In this essay three arguments will be made to prove this point. First the government use firemen to get rid of books because they are afraid people will rebel, they use preventative measures like censorship to hide from the public the truth, the government promotes ignorance to make it easier for them to control their citizens. Throughout the book, “Fahrenheit 451” we see many examples of the Monomyth. The three stages of the Monomyth are Departure, Initiation, and Return. Montag follows each of these stages throughout the story and the Monomyth is described through the actions that take place. The first stage is Departure, it is demonstrated in the very beginning of the book when Montag is at work like normal and witnesses the woman who kills herself. Before this occurred Montag actually somewhat liked and enjoyed his job and was never curious about books. Madness is one of the key themes in “The Yellow Wallpaper” by Charlotte Perkins Gilman. It is presented in a way that makes the work of literature a very diverse short story. Although madness isn’t the only theme, it helps the reader better understand many of the other themes in the story. For example, gender inequality, freedom, and confinement. All of these topics can be analyzed through the idea of madness in the story. When I first read this short story I was looking at it through a narrow view of madness and insanity. However, when I read the story again in another course, it allowed me to look at the other themes in this story and analyze them. Because of this I was able to notice things about the story that I had not encountered before. This is why “The Yellow Wallpaper” became one of the most interesting works I have read this semester.
In this paper we are going to look at Thomas Paine’s “Common Sense” pamphlet. We are going to try and understand why it was so important to be written then and how some, if any, of its importance still holds true in today’s world. Thomas Paine is attacking Britain and its rule on how we are to govern ourselves, even though they are miles upon miles away. The Yellow Wallpaper, written by Charlotte Perkins Gilman was an enigmatic read. The story is about a woman, the narrator, who is suffering with depression. John, the husband of the main character, will be the focus of this paper. Gilman wrote John’s character in such a way as to leave interpretation open to the reader. Some may perceive John as a caring, loving husband; treating his wife as men did during the era in which the story was written. John decides that his wife needs to be isolated; free of all responsibilities and stimulation. John’s wife disagrees with the decisions he has forced upon her. She writes from her own personal experiences and conveys a message that sometimes in a male dominated society women suffer from the relentless power that some men implement over women.

Charlotte Perkins Gilman uses her short story “The Yellow Wallpaper” to express her opinions about feminism and originality. Gilman does so by taking the reader through the terrors of one woman's psychological disorder, her entire mental state characterized by her encounters with the wallpaper in her room. She incorporates imagery and symbolism to show how confined the narrator is because of her gender and mental illness.
