Semester one final exam

During the past couple of months, we have written a handful of different kinds of essays. Each essay has its own characteristics and main ideas around which it evolves. An informative essay would be written to give information, a descriptive essay would be written to portray a certain picture through words while a comparison essay would be written to compare and contrast certain ideas, themes, characters, etc. The novel, Sense and Sensibility, by Jane Austin can be summarized and analyzed in all the different forms of essays that we have written in this semester.

Sense and Sensibility is a novel whose story revolves around two sister: Elinor and Marianne Dashwood. They have a younger sister, Margaret and a stepbrother, John. Their father, Henry Dashwood dies and his property is inherited by John who is already married to the wealthy Fanny Ferrars. John makes a promise to his father that he would take care of his mother and sisters as that was the father’s last wish. The family soon after the burial move to Norland Park and live in a cottage which was offered by Mrs. Dashwood’s cousin, Sir Middleton. Before moving, Edward Ferrars, Fanny’s brother, had come for a visit and was attracted to Elinor. After becoming comfortable in the Barton Cottage, Marianne and Margaret are walking around when Marianne sprains her ankle and is unable to walk and is carried home by John Willoughby and they both fall in love and are seem to be inseparable. A friend of Sir Henry, Colonel Brandon seems to admire Marianne. The fact that he has an illegitimate daughter, makes her not have affection for him. Lucy confides to Elinor that Edward and she have been secretly engaged ...

...be seen that the characters do not give up on their love even after hearing stories that might cause them to have a mental breakdown.

Each paragraph written has its own uniqueness. The first body paragraphed informed and gave details on the insight of the novel. The next paragraph gave us a descriptive view of where the novel takes place. One of the main character, Elinor was compared to another protagonist from the Lord of the Flies. The novel classification was outlined in the sixth body paragraph. And lastly the theme was analyzed and identified in the last paragraph.
