In 1729, a writer from Oxford, named Jonathan Swift wrote the text A Modest Proposal. Swift’s satirical work was to let the people see the poverty level in the Irish country. He adopts a caring personality for the Irish families in order to show how severe poverty is to those outside of Ireland.
The issue presented is the amount of poverty in the country which has not yet been resolved or dealt with. This problem is due to too many Irish families with many children and lack of government interventions to try and help those in need. The observations done by Jonathan Swift seem to target the governments so they can help the many families. The main point is that something should be done about this and have this issue taken care of. Swift’s argument presented is not a logical or morally correct proposal. The purpose is to mock those people into thinking something good to do to help themselves.
