On the afternoon of September 1st, 2015, Illinois Police Lieutenant Joe Gliniewicz radioed in from the Fox Lake area saying he was exiting his patrol car to check on a few suspicious men. Not long after, the officer was found shot dead at the scene, he had one bullet in his vest, and the other hitting close to the heart. Officer Gliniewicz’s belongings were scattered at the scene, which made it seem like he was struggling at the time of his death. However, investigators came to the conclusion that Gliniewicz staged his suicide to make it look like he was murdered. Apparently, he was living a double standard life for over 20 years. After investigators looked into the case, they found that Gliniewicz pocketed tens of thousands of dollars from
Because the murder of Richard Malloy seemed to everyone to be a random criminal act, it came as a surprise to many when another male body, also shot several times was found in a wooded area of Citrus County, Fl not far from where Malloy’s body had been found barely six months prior. The victim was identified as 43 year old David Spears of Sarasota, Fl. His truck was soon discovered on Interstate 75, unlocked with the license plate missing. Around the same time, 30 miles south of Citrus county another naked body was discovered a short distance off of the Pasco county side of Interstate 75. The victims’ entire body was so decomposed that the medical examiners could not obtain any usable prints to use for identification. They did, however, find that the victim, later identified as Charles Carskaddon, had been shot nine times with a 22. During the next six months more male victims, with a total of eight, were killed and disposed of in similar ways, each somewhere around the Interstate 75 corridor.
In the movie My Cousin Vinny, Vinny Gambini is set on a journey to prove his cousin and his friend innocent of a murder case. Bill and Stan are on a road trip to California to the University of California, Los Angeles, where they receive a scholarship to attend the university. On the way there they stop at a convenient store to buy some necessities for the trip. Their hands were full of food and drinks, when Bill put the can of tuna in his jacket because there was no way he couldn’t carry any more food.
On October 20, 2014 a young male teen was fatally shot in Chicago, Illinois. The shooting occurred in the middle of the road and the suspect that was fatally shot was named Laquan McDonald. McDonald was just 17 years old and was the suspect after initial reports placed him in the scene of a possible car jacking. It was reported that Laquan McDonald had a knife and was also seen slashing tires of a police cruiser. When police had finally had him surrounded in the middle of the road, one officer opened fire and released 16 shots into his body. Another deputy on hand said the use of force was not needed because Laquan was not in any way trying to attack the officers present. The officer who fired the 16 shots into Laquan is named Jason D. As I was completing this assignment, I was watching the infamous Netflix documentary entitled Making a Murderer. The documentary follows the story of Steven Avery, who is currently in prison for the death of a woman, Teresa Halbach, in 2005. Steven Avery has been denying any involvement in the murder of Teresa Halbach for the past eleven years. In the middle of the reading, the documentary was exploring and analyzing Steven Avery’s deviant behavior as a young man (Making). As I observed what was being discussed about Steven Avery, I was able to build the connection between how society, and the community from which he came from, perceived Steven Avery and what Kai Erikson discussed in the first couple pages of the book with regards to deviance and its relation with regards to society.
The serial killer that I have chosen to research is Mark goudeau, also known as the “Baseline Killer”. Mark was born on September 6th 1964, he was an american serial killer and rapist. He was involved in one of the two simultaneously occurring serial killer cases going on in South Phoenix, Arizona at that time. Mark’s was born in Phoenix, and was the second youngest of 13 siblings in which six were felons, and four have done prison time. Mark’s mother was a maid working at all different hours of the day, while his father Willie was a lot attendant for different car dealers. They were lower working class which didn’t help with thirteen children to take care of. His father had a drug and alcohol problem, which ran in the family. He later cheated

We find out about this traumatic experience when Ferdinand Bruckner comes into the film. Bruckner, Hans’ former captain, was responsible for killing hundreds
July 15, 1999, was an ordinary night for Kristopher Lohrmeyer as he left work at the Colorado City Creamer, a popular ice cream parlor. Kristopher had no idea that his life was about to end. When Michael Brown, 17, Derrick Miller and Andrew (Andy) Medina, 15, approached Kristopher and demanded his money and his car keys. Before the boys knew it shots had been fired and Kristopher was dead. About an hour after the fatal shooting of Kristopher Lohrmeyer, all three men were in custody and telling their version of the night’s events. Michael and Derrick who had run away after the shooting confessed to police and named Andy as the shooter. According to the three boy’s testimony, they had only recently met and needed away to get some quick cash, so they developed a carjacking scheme and headed to Andy’s house to pick up 2 stolen handguns. The three boys were uneducated and had spent most of their time on the streets in search of drugs. The judge ruled that they would be held without bail and there was probable cause to charge them all with first-degree murder (Thrown Away, 2005).
The sentencing of underage criminals has remained a logistical and moral issue in the world for a very long time. The issue is brought to our perspective in the documentary Making a Murderer and the audio podcast Serial. When trying to overcome this issue, we ask ourselves, “When should juveniles receive life sentences?” or “Should young inmates be housed with adults?” or “Was the Supreme Court right to make it illegal to sentence a minor to death?”. There are multiple answers to these questions, and it’s necessary to either take a moral or logical approach to the problem.
The “Man I Killed” takes us into the Vietnam War and tell us about a soldiers first time of killing another individual. The author describes a Viet Cong soldier that he has killed, using vivid, physical detail with clear descriptions of the dead mans’ fatal wounds. O'Brien envisions the biography of this man and envisions the individual history of the dead Vietnamese soldier starting with his birthplace moving through his life, and finished with him enrolling in the Vietnamese Army. O'Brien also describes some of the dead soldiers’ hopes and dreams. The author uses this history in an attempt to make the dead man more realistic to the reader
The story of Ryan Ferguson is a bizarre case that many find difficult to comprehend. In 2001, a murder was committed and although DNA evidence was left behind, no suspects were found. The case became cold, until two years later when an anonymous call came saying that the murderer was Charles Erickson. Apparently, Chuck Erickson blacked out the night of Halloween and thought that he may have committed the crime because he was in the vicinity of the scene. When interrogated his story was loose and full of doubts. The police tell him about the murder weapon and various details of the crime, including motive.
In the school shooting at Sandy Hook elementary school, 20 teachers and young children were killed. The infamous killer who committed this mass murder was a 20 year old man by the name of Adam Lanza. He had been planning this for some time and used his mother's arsenal to do it. He shot his mother first, then proceeded to the school where he shot the kids, and eventually himself. This was a fatal and tragic incident that ended many innocent lives. Adam Lanza is a villain that had a plethora of mental health issues along with dangerous interests, such as pedophilia and mass murders, which all failed to be addressed properly.
“My consuming lust was to experience their bodies. I viewed them as objects, as strangers. It is hard for me to believe a human being could have done what I've done”(Dahmer).
Many critics regard Shakespeare’s “plays within a play” revolutionary for his time. One of his more famous demonstrations of this was in his play Hamlet. At the beginning of the play Hamlet learns his father was killed by Claudius. In the beginning he does not know how to confront the situation, or if he can really trust his father’s ghost. He later settles on creating a play titled “The Murder of Gonzago”, in which Hamlet plans to affect Claudius’ mind and bring him face-to-face with what he has done. There have been numerous journals and articles analyzing and deciphering the overall importance The Murder of Gonzago played in Hamlet. The usage of the play within a play was vital to further the storyline of the play Hamlet.
When I was younger, I was deeply against abortion due to myself believing it was just morally wrong. I went around thinking who in their right mind would want to kill an innocent baby who cannot even fend for themselves. I surely did not want a death of pure baby to be on my subconsciousness. Now, almost five years later my views on abortion are changing immensely. Yes I still believe denying a baby a chance to life is still horrible, but now I am not only looking at the rights of the baby, but also the rights of the mother.
Michael Sanders, a Professor at Harvard University, gave a lecture titled “Justice: What’s The Right Thing To Do? The Moral Side of Murder” to nearly a thousand student’s in attendance. The lecture touched on two contrasting philosophies of morality. The first philosophy of morality discussed in the lecture is called Consequentialism. This is the view that "the consequences of one 's conduct are the ultimate basis for any judgment about the rightness or wrongness of that conduct.” (Consequentialism) This type of moral thinking became known as utilitarianism and was formulated by Jeremy Bentham who basically argues that the most moral thing to do is to bring the greatest amount of happiness to the greatest number of people possible.
