Analysis of the Audio Version of War of the Worlds In the audio version of war of the worlds the telling of the story is in a radio broadcast format. The way that the broadcast was presented was very believable and caused Moral panic when it was first broadcast. The way that the broadcast was presented was in a very real sounding news report. This causes seriousness and makes you realise how if tuned in 10 minutes after the start of the broadcast could and did cause moral panic in America. The program started with an introduction and a short introduction to the intentions of the aliens and then continued as an apparently ordinary music show, only occasionally interrupted by news flashes. The truth to any war does not lie in the depths of storytelling but rather it’s embedded in every person involved. According to O’Brien, “A true war story does not depend on that kind of truth. Stories are told through a seemingly limitless number of vessels: oral traditions date back thousands of years, literature revolutionized the way information is carried, and in the more recent years film broke through barriers and revolutionized modern media. What all all of these forms have in common is a medium, a method in which to tell their story. Though there are some exceptions, the traditional format includes a narrator of sorts, who will illustrate the events of a story from their own personal perspective. As one can imagine, a story is vastly influenced by the narrator that tells it. Details, opinions, even whole events are included or left out at the discretion of the individual or individuals sharing it. A brilliant example of the power narration holds lies when comparing Joseph Conrad’s novel Heart of Darkness to Francis Ford Coppola’s Apocalypse Now, a film based off of the previously mentioned novel. The novel’s aspiring seaman, Charles Marlow, is a stark contrast to Benjamin Willard, the movie’s special operations officer. Though both pieces of art tell similar stories, the way each tale is told changes the way they story is told.
For this quarters culture project I went to go see the Fremd production of The Sound of Music. The play takes place in Austria during the time of Nazi rule. The play starts with a woman who is trying to become a nun but, all of the other nuns don't think she is capable of being one. So they send her off to be a governess to the kids of a high ranking Austrian military captain. Upon her arrival she quickly notices how strict the captain is as well as how disciplined his kids act. After the captain leaves, the governess has a chance to get to know the kids a bit better and come to realize the kids don't know what singing so her first order of business is to teach them how to sing. After this, she starts to teach and do things that would be frowned upon by the captain. Later in the play the captain returns home to find his kids singing and not wearing their uniforms. At first this upsets him very much but, he is convinced by the governess that he was being too strict and that he should interact with his kids more often. This is the point in the play that they hit to the audience that the captain and the governess start to have feelings for each other. This is also the point in the play that the captain starts drifting away from the "stay and fight mentality" rather than the "run and protect my family" mentality. Just as he was considering fleeing Austria with his family. He get commissioned by the Nazis against his will. The day before he was supposed to start working there is a culture festival which his family was going to be a part of.
The War of the Worlds film (1953) as a Cold War film This is one of the best science fiction films of the twentieth century and it is also a Cold War classic film. The film was released in 1953, produced by George Pal and directed by Byron Haskin and it was the year's biggest science fiction film hit. The plot of the film is very different from the novel, which tells the story of a nineteenth century writer who journeys through London and its southern suburbs while the Martians attack and at the end he was reunited with his wife. In the film the protagonist is a Californian scientist who falls in love with a former college student after the Martian invasion begins in a small Californian town; he also reunited with his girlfriend at the end of the story. In both plots the aliens had no mercy on humans, used similar landing ships and had partially the same weapons.
World War Z (2013), directed by Marc Forster was a story about a former investigator named Gerry lane, played by Brad Pitt, who worked for the United Nations who was called back into duty to investigate the plague of a mysterious infection. The human population was turning into zombies that were going on a rampage and biting and killing anyone they came across. The movie started out showing Lane’s family living a content lifestyle and as they were heading out for the day, they ran into massive amounts of traffic and all of a sudden the chaos began. Lane and his family were in the car sitting in stand-still traffic when they saw people running for their lives while being attacked by the zombies. Throughout the movie, Lane and his family were trying to survive and escape the chaos by hiding and waiting for the government to come and pick them up and take them to safety. Once they were safe, Lane was sent back in the field to try and find out the cause of the outbreak. This is one of many zombie films today but compared to other films, this one was a little different.

“Get back in your car!!!” The policeman was yelling at Gerry to tell him that something was not right and he would be safer in his car. As soon as the policeman said “Remain with your family…” he was mauled over by a huge 18-wheeler that was driving out of control down the middle of the street. Gerry floored the gas pedal as he speeded for safety, but was instantly halted as an ambulance ran slap into the driver side of the car. As Gerry and his wife, Karin, awoke from the crash, his ears were ringing and all he could hear in the distance was screaming and screeching sirens. He could see people running from something although he did not know of what the threat was, he just knew that he needed to get his family to safety. It was then Gerry knew that he was in for the worst horror nightmare of his life. He has to get his family to safety from a threat that he has never encountered in his life, and may not make it in time. The keyword is “ZOMBIE”.
The importance of music in movies is highly regarded for manipulating the viewer’s emotions and helping them immerse into the story. Music is one of the prime elements in cinema. Without it a movie would feel dull and unexciting. There are three elements in a movie: one is acting, the second is picture, and the third one is music. It is a holy trinity; if incomplete, there would be a lack of sensation and excitement. Both acting and picture can stand independently from one another, but music is the one that makes the movie memorable.
