In the episode "The Measure of a Man", Commander Maddox walks onto the Starship Enterprise and makes a request to perform an experiment on the android named Data. During Maddox 's visit, it becomes clear his plans center on shutting down Data’s memory base. Furthermore, Maddox wants to make sure that his actions will prevent Data from being able to ascertain how scientists were able to create him. Although Maddox promises Data that all of his memory and features will be restored, Data feels like he will not be the same after the examination. As a result, Data refuses to proceed. However, Maddox states that Data is Starfleet property, and he cannot resign from the assignment.
Since Data is a representation of a human, he feels that he should be given the same rights as a human being. Captain Picard agrees with Data and helps him fight for his rights. As a result of the conflict, Captain Picard, Data, Commander Riker, Commander Maddox, and a judge attend a hearing

Unfortunately, that human figure represented in a hologram will never be able to come back from death in the physical sense. Data is an android created to demonstrate the intelligence of human society. In the episode "Datalore", Data told one of the doctors that he has an on/off switch on his back, which allows him the ability to power on and off. Data keeps the switch a secret because he feels that the power button could be used towards his demise if he ever over steps his boundaries as an intelligent android. There were some questions about why did a white man decide to make a film about African-Americans struggles in the 1960’s. This film has been cited as one of the best films about African Americans. The story I chose for this analysis is “Why, you reckon?” by Langston Hughes. IN this analysis I will be focusing on how the great depression in Harlem had effect on the story, how racism played a part, and how or if the characters were justifyied in their actions. During this time period the intense racial divide combined with the economic harships that plagued the U.S. during the 1923’s makes for an interesting story that makes you think if the charaters were really justified.
“A Good Man Is Hard To Find” is a Southern Gothic short story written in 1953 by Flannery O’Connor (1925-1964) in a style that portrays the unfortunate demise of a family’s trip to Florida. Flannery O’Connor was raised as a Roman Catholic in the Bible Belt of the United States, which significantly influenced her purpose and style of writing towards themes of religious revelations and journeys (Flannery). This short story is a typical Foster quest story in that the family is oblivious to the fact that they are on a quest, but on their journey cut short to Florida, they learn more about themselves and others than they ever could have learned in their home-state of Georgia (Foster). Style is the manner in which an author chooses to write to their audience (“Style”). Style reveals a lot about the writer’s personality and through “A Good Man Is Hard To Find”, Flannery O’Connor reveals her desire to convey God’s grace and religion in everyday life through religious symbols in characters and their actions.
Flannery O’Connor’s “A Good Man is Hard to Find” discusses the definition of goodness within a few complicated characters. However, morality and human compassion seem to have very little to do with the definition of “good,” according to the key characters in the short story, least of all the grandmother. At first, the grandmother seems to be a caring and concerned mother and grandmother, begging her son to travel in the opposite direction from where a murderer has been rumored to be traveling. It becomes apparent later in the story that she is mostly concerned for herself and cares very little for the well being of anyone else. Culture Centers in Higher Education: Perspectives on Identity, Theory, and Practice is a powerful and enlightening book by Lori D. Patton. Patton is a higher education scholar who focuses on issues of race theories, African American experiences on college campuses, student development theories, campus environments, inclusion, and multicultural resources centers at higher education institutions. She has a variety of publications and was one of the first doctoral students to complete a dissertation that focused exclusively on Black culture centers entitled, “From Protest to Progress: An Examination of the Relevance, Relationships and Roles of Black Culture Centers.” In Campus Culture Centers in Higher Education Patton collaborates with many higher education scholars and faculty members to discuss various types of racial and ethnic culture centers in higher education, their overall effectiveness, relevance, and implications for improvement in relation to student retention and success. Diversity, inclusion and social justice have become prevalent issues on all college campuses, and this piece of literature gives a basic introduction for individuals unfamiliar with cultural resource centers. This book successfully highlights contributions of culture centers and suggestions for how centers can be reevaluated and structured more efficiently. For many faculty, administrators, and student affairs professionals unfamiliar with the missions and goals of culture centers, Patton’s text provides a concrete introduction and outline for the functionality of these resources and also offers recommendations and improvements for administrators managing multicultural centers.

People go through rough times, but the author A Man Called Ove, Fredrik Backman explains how one life changing event can affect a person for a lifetime. Some people never recover from lost love ones. Ove was able to make a change in his life to compensate for the love one that he lost. Ove’s journey leads to the happiness that every single person deserves. All the people in the neighborhood changed him and allows him to be successful on his path to happiness.
Changes in friends happen to everybody for different reasons. This is evident when looking at the way physical separation between people leads to a weakening in friendship and then an end in friendship all together as time continues. While keeping in touch with a few people is natural, moving or a change in setting will cause an end in friendship because new people will replace old friends from the previous setting and a place’s social environment may change that friend into someone completely new.
Within Measure for Measure, the character of Angelo can be seen as a case study of will over moral nature. Angelo, a deputy, is given the Dukes authority to act in his behalf while the Duke is away. The story unfolds as Angelo uses the agency he's been given in ways that many men in authoritative positions have done. It is interesting to follow his line of thought and to realize that this is a man who is not unlike many others. The main conflict between Isabella and Angelo is a contemporary problem. Measure for Measure is a unique opportunity to investigate the personality types of the characters involved in the conflict, and the study of these complex characters can give meaningful insights into the nature of human emotion and action.
When studying human personality, psychologists may consider different levels of analysis. Personality can be viewed as characteristics typical of human nature and that we are “like all others” (Kluckhohn & Murray, 1953), as humans share the same basic biological components, experiences of development and social interactions. Alternatively, personality can be analysed in terms of individual and group differences, where we are “like some other[s]” (Kluckhohn & Murray, 1953). This approach considers that groups of individuals possess common characteristics, but that characteristics vary between individuals. For example, men are generally more aggressive than women, but one man may be more aggressive in comparison to another man. This level of analysis takes a nomothetic view on personality. Some theorists however may be more interested in individual uniqueness and take an idiographic approach to studying personality.
