Tourism is an important revenue generator in South Africa . It contributes approximately 9% to South Africa’s Gross Domestic Product and creates thousands of job opportunities . South Africa has beautiful landscapes, bush veld expeditions and a warm and sunny climate which attracts tourists from all over the world . Tourism is a major source of foreign income/exchange which contributes to economic growth .
South Africa is well populated by a diverse group of people and cultures in which there is 11 official languages spoken in South Africa .

Due to political rivalry/disturbances South Africa’s “Rainbow Nation” is still struggling after two decades
Cost-efficient backpacker hostels are also available for those working on a strict budget .
According to a survey conducted, it is found that most domestic and local tourists make use of taxi services, car rentals and bus services to get from one destination to another. The transportation that is most often used to travel to and fro is shuttle services. It is cost effective and a convenient way to see the country.

Analysis of Attractions and Events
Tourists visiting South Africa are not only here for our warm sunny climate, exquisite wildlife, festive beaches and luxurious hotels but also for the traditions we take after and the way all the different cultures support and interact with one another .
Other than the national festival celebrations every year like New Years, Easter and Christmas, South Africa celebrates a variety of cultural festivals all year around, which attracts local and foreign tourists all over South Africa which contributes towards social and tourism development
• Klein Karoo National Arts Festival → a celebration of the Afrikaner culture in Oudtshoorn.
• Innibos National Arts Festival → celebration of South African artists, visual arts and theater performances in Nelspruit- Mbombela (Mpumalanga).
• Indaba → One of the world’s biggest tourism and tourism marketing events. A wide variety of SA’s top tourism products is showcased which attracts international media, buyers and potential consumers.
Analysis of Key Destinations
South Africa’s attractions vary from semi-deserts, lush green forests and bushveld, natural attractions to sunny beaches, man-made destinations and entertainment resorts . The main activities that tourists indulge in are game trails/game drives, nature activities and enjoying South Africa’s coastal destinations.
Game drives can be done in day and night time in most game reserves. Most of South Africa’s natural attractions have developed into small organizations with facilities like braai areas, camping, ablution blocks and guided day tours.
