CHAPTER 1
INTRODUCTION
1.1 Background

The utilization of Complementary and Alternative Medicines (CAM) is increasing in Malaysia among healthy individuals as well as patients with chronic diseases for example cancer (Hasan et al., 2009). 1.6 Research Objectives
1.6.1 Primary Objectives
The primary objective of this study is to determine the hematologic and nonhematologic toxic effects on cancer patients together with overall survival, and cancer-related symptoms in both groups of patients; those who receive CHM and those who do not.
1.6.2 Secondary Objectives
The secondary objective of this study is to assess the health-related quality of life (HRQOL) of breast cancer patients with CHM and without CHM.
