Dear Germanna English Professors, The song Chasing Cars by Snow Patrol is a piece of art that I have grown up to love over the years of listening to it. When I first heard this song, I was young and didn’t understand the concept of love and relationships. I just liked the tune and listened to it often. My first interpretation of this song was that Gary Lightbody (the singer of Snow Patrol) lost someone and was missing them, especially when they played the song many times on Grey’s Anatomy for whenever someone important to the show died. When I listened to it again without thinking of my previous interpretation, I started to believe that it is a love song, and he just wants to sit down and enjoy the little things with someone he loves. Another line of the song is "...those three words are said too much, they're not enough..." To me, Lightbody said this because the three words he was referring to, I love you, are not enough to express his love for this person. These words are used so much today that the true meaning of them has become somewhat meaningless at times. It has become an automatic response to certain situations when one doesn't know what to say.
