The Shout Your Abortion hashtag is a growing movement that has touched the lives of millions of families and has made a huge impact on today’s society. This is an organization fighting for women’s right to decide whether or not they see fit to have an abortion. What is it that empowers women feel so strongly about the topic abortion? This hashtag was started by a woman who decided enough was enough and that she wanted to take a stand against abortion being illegal and detested. Her mission is to spread the awareness of abortion and encourage women to feel comfortable with their decision. The co-founder, Amelia Bonow, talks about how women should be proud of their decision to have an abortion and that they should not be ashamed of their choices …show more content…
By not only supporting the women who have an abortion, but the ones who do not. This movement is known for its persistence in the prochoice crusade, however the downfall of this development is that this movement is watering down the problem. Instead of encouraging women to only be pro-abortion, a better solution could be to let them know that they have options and to provide support to those who decide to keep their child. This is a growing movement and will adjust accordingly. Yes, this organization’s main purpose is to legalize abortion nationwide, but it can be easy to get misled when there are other alternatives to abortion. Adoption is an option that is not talked about enough in the Shout Your Abortion campaign. Starting an organization to help support women who keep their child is also another alternative to abortion. Shout your abortions audience would be pregnant women struggling with the decision of keeping their baby or not, but is also a message to the men who are involved with the woman making the decision. This organization approaches this movement with a positive angle. It encourages women to be proud of their decision and to be more open with sharing their experiences. They believe that by sharing their stories it will affect others by inspiring them to be okay with their decision of having an abortion. This movement does not want women to be ashamed
Talking about abortion brings out an emotional response in many women. This is because having an abortion takes a massive emotional toll on some women. As Nanyjo Mann said, three weeks after having an abortion, “I became preoccupied with the thoughts of death. I fantasized about how I would die. My baby struggled for two hours” (Reardon, 1987, p. xviii). In the forward of the book “Aborted Women, Silent No More” Nanyjo, a women telling her story of abortion, goes on to tell about feeling unstable with herself after having an abortion. She wanted to prove to herself that destroying others didn’t hurt, but it does (Reardon, 1987, p. xix-xx). Continuing in reading Nanyjo’s story, she tells all of the effects and feelings she went through after having an abortion including stress, depression and low self esteem. Any girl under the age of 18 would have an even harder time dealing with this type of stress. Teenagers are already seeking their identity and worry about their grades, looks, and peer acceptance. Going through the post abortion stress all by themselves would be overwhelming and potentially put them at risk for mental breakdown.
The picture of a bloody fetus torn apart by a surgeon's scalpel danced overhead in the cloudy sky. I stared at the swaying poster and at the tiny body lying in a green garbage bag. Around it, hundreds of similar signs filled the sky with bright words and colors as a huge mass of men, women and children paraded under them in a huge march. I stared at the marchers, disbelieving of the sight in front of me. They were the Pro-Lifers, marching in favor of banning abortion as a choice and a right for women.
I believe, that if you don’t think you are capable of giving your child a decent life, that they will be able to be successful in, you should consider your all options, maybe being a parent isn’t right for you. Every child deserves happiness and I hate seeing people treat their children poorly, abusing them, and neglecting them. If you do not want kids, you shouldn’t have them, no child should live feeling unwanted. I also stand by the fact that it is no one’s business unless you include them in the fact that you are having an abortion, I see few ways in how it may affect the rest of the world, if you decide not to have a child or not. All women reserve the right of privacy, and of course a choice. It isn't up to the government to tell women to give birth or not, and that’s why the law is the way it is. According to ("EsMBA." Five Major Pro Choice Abortion Arguments. N.p., n.d. Web. 25 Aug. 2016. )Most women were using a method of birth control that didn't work properly. By denying women abortions, who never intended to have children or become pregnant, forces them have children they don't want. Unwanted childbirth can have a severely negative impact on a person’s life, forcing them to raise another human, and take time away from that person’s necessities, and effecting every single day
The first side of the argument, which opposes abortion, is called pro-life. Essentially, they value a fetuses life more than a woman’s right to choose what to do with her body. To these activists, choosing abortion is the equivalent to murder, and that they are “playing god” by aborting their children. They also feel that on the other hand that abortion is a dangerous procedure, and puts the mother at risk (hli.org 3). Anti-abortion leaders argue that there are alternatives to abortion, such as adoption. Adoption may provide a warm and happy home, (although often times they are placed in uncaring home...
It shows that women should come together and fight for their rights. This relates to the article “What is Reproductive Justice” by Price, who states that women of color need to be encouraged to come together and be involved in the political movement for reproductive freedom. Therefore, the main goal of the reproductive justice movement is the right to have an abortion, the right to have children, and the right to parent these children. Reproductive Justice is a positive approach that links sexuality, health, and human rights to social justice movements by placing abortion and reproductive health issues in the larger context of the well-being and health of
Before someone claims to be pro life they would need to know the meaning of pro life. To be pro life is to say that the person believes that the government has obligations to preserve all human life, regardless of intent, viability, or quality of life (Heard). The pro life advocate believes that help should be given to a young woman to make it as simple as possible to give her child up for adoption, if she desires. Dealing with young women that do not wish to keep their children can be an opportunity for both individuals and society to develop true understanding and charity. Is it not better to develop these virtues than the countenance of ethic destruction as the solut...
In the case of Sarah Grosvenor and Amasa Sessions it is evident the roles that society and gender played in the decision of abortion. Sarah lost her life because in that era you could not openly discuss the issue of abortion, and Sessions was praised because he pushed for the abortion and would not bring a bastard child in the world. Abortion still remains today a very controversial topic, and one that many people are not accepted no matter what their view is on the subject. There still remains pressure from many people in society and today’s culture to persuade one’s opinion and decision on abortion. Although it is not talked about, other than people protesting against, or for their rights, it is a legal act, and ultimately the decision of the woman.
...ur no matter the circumstance, but abortion also affects the lives of many people around the baby, and implants the idea into the minds of the children of the next generation that murder is completely acceptable. Abortion is the extermination of an innocent baby that has no discretion in this major decision his mother has put on them to struggle for his own life in a hopeless manner that eventually results in his death. The process that a huge number of women are putting their bodies and thus their child’s body through is painful, disgusting, and insulting. Society desperately needs to further research the action of abortion and express the truth of the matter. Once society has done that, there can be no doubt that this cruel idea will be terminated as a legal process and hopefully be put to a complete stop. It is time for America to take action and tell the truth.
Abortion, one of the most quarrelsome issues in America, is discussed daily in thorough detail. Although an abortion deals with women’s own bodies, health, and futures, women should not be allowed to regulate who survives and who dies. America’s president-elect genuinely deems that Roe v. Wade, which allows women to make their own intimate decision, should be repealed. Furthermore, at a campaign event in Wisconsin, Donald Trump stated that women who seek abortion should be subject to “some form of punishment” (Flegenheimer, et al.). While this New York Times article is heavily biased, Trump was highly criticized for the rhetoric he used at his campaign event. Americans must fathom what Trump is faithfully preaching; Trump is discoursing any
Next January, University students will again meet in Washington to march for life. Most likely, before then we will continue to see the same type of slanted picture of abortion. And although most of us won't hear much about them, the people who gather for the March for Life are still important.
Abortion in America is a huge issue that is causing much turmoil between the communities in America. Some people feel this way and some people feel another. I am personally for pro-choice, which means I am against abortion unless it is to save a mothers life due to medical problems. Through research I found that there are many things available that are being done to try and cut the rate of abortion in America and yet I feel that there is still so much more that can be done. Just to name a few things that are being done: pray, sidewalk counseling (slightly goes along with prayer) this is where they try to convince the mother not to have an abortion one last time right before they go into the clinic, networking, volunteer at local CPC, and picket abortion mills, protestors stand outside of abortion clinics and with signs and pictures to give their opinions on abortion.
...ions over her own body; whether it is parenthood, adoption, contraception, or yes, abortion. After all, it is entirely plausible for people to be personally pro-life but politically pro-choice – this suggests that they respect each individuals’ rights over his or her own body and recognize that each woman should be allowed to have options. Regardless of whether or not she chooses to have the child, it is the fact that she has a choice that is crucial, and it is imperative that each woman have the freedom of individual autonomy. In order for this to occur, abortion must continue to be legal. Ultimately, being pro-choice is not necessarily advocating the use of abortion – it is about ensuring that abortion is legal so that women may have the option to exercise their right to individual autonomy and make the decisions that best reflects their stance in life.
...s a heartbeat, working vital systems, and it’s a living, breathing, and moving being. Just because a fetus can’t say anything in its defense doesn’t mean it doesn’t deserve at a happy, healthy life. Everything on Earth deserves a chance to live and prove their worth in the world. The fact that women feminists believe in the right for women to choose abortion is offensive. They make women out to be weak and too irresponsible to make rational decisions. If women can’t take responsibility during intercourse they shouldn’t be doing it knowing the consequences. There are dozens of different types of birth control out there. There is no reason for women and men not to go around without taking the necessary precautions. The fact that abortion is still legal and a debatable topic today makes our race look weak and too irresponsible to take responsibility for our actions.
What creates individuality in us is the ability to have the right to our own opinion. As the rape culture and teenage pregnancy becomes a more apparent issue, abortion surfaces itself as a leading topic in today’s society. Although contraception may be an option for everyone, there are still risks involved and mistakes to be made. Females from a wide range of age groups frequently have abortions today because of wrong decisions and special circumstances. We see various advertisements and propaganda emerging all around us. The news media still continue to outline the pros and cons of having an abortion. Abortion has been the subject of debate for centuries between many human rights activists, religious groups, and even health care practitioners.
Being a mother is a lifelong job that requires copious time, energy, and money. There are myriad different reasons in which a woman would consider getting an abortion. The decision is often tragic and painful for the mother. It is one of the biggest choices a woman will make. Many people have strong beliefs about abortion, and if a mother makes a decision that they do not agree with they sometimes turn against the mother, and enkindle egregious feelings about their decision for the rest of their life. Indeed a woman may not get an abortion for selfish reasons or out of convenience, but out of a desire to protect certain important values such as her own health or a decent standard of living for the other members of the family. Additional intentions for having abortion include rape, financial difficulties, obligation by family members, or danger to the baby’s health (Roleff
