A bird sits on top of its nest and gazes out at the morning sun. Her eggs are safely snuggled underneath her. Then there is a loud sound of a chainsaw. The whole tree starts to shake. The bird is in panic, if see leaves she will lose her eggs if she stays she might die. The tree all of a sudden falls like a bowling ball in the air. The bird looks for her eggs and sees then lying on the ground. Cracks in every egg bring great sorrow to the bird. The once bright future has become a chaotic doom. This essay will use audience, purpose, and situation and claims to prove Wilderness preservation is the key to the article, The Puritan Origins of the American Wilderness Movement,
In the articles targeted audience is the general public. It is obviously meant for those of us who are at least out of grade school. The language of the essay has complex words that wouldn’t be known by a grade school student. We must assume the target audience for the article is for the adults. The article also can speak toward environmental activities. The article is beaming with information of the original thoughts behind saving key parts of our natural environment. Even those who know very little about the environment might be interested in seeing what the different sides were for saving the environment. This came from my perception after reading such comments as, “Bible consistently characterizes wilderness as "cursed" land, "the environment of evil," a "kind of hell" on earth. (Nash) “This concept was very interesting to come across. The author then talked about how puritans believed it was their right as followers of god to add to the environment. The theory that God told us to build our own paradise is one of the claims that seemed to center about religious beliefs behind the argument against wilderness
