Directed by Stephen Spielberg, a 168 award winning icon, the film notably called, Lincoln, is the story of the finals months of the 16th President of the United States trying to pass the 13th Amendment and end the Civil War. The film was release in 2012, portraying the history of the 19th century of the hard works Abraham Lincoln, played Daniel Day Lewis, had to endure. The producers of this film, Pixar, has made it possible to win an Oscar and produced a film that showed the significant part of history in a fantastic way. Daniel Day Lewis did an excellent job of portraying Lincoln which, at first, he originally turned down the part(). He did not composed the whole history part so he consulted historian, James MacPherson (). Macpherson wrote various Lincoln biographies which gave a reason Spielberg to turn to him. Lincoln, It is based on Doris Kearns Goodwin 's Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln (2005), a book that focuses on Lincoln 's conciliatory spirit and determination to work with cabinet members he selected from among those who had opposed him in the 1860 election (). With more knowledge about the Reconstruction era, I found the film to be more understanding than I expected it to be. The film showed that President Lincoln persevered to end the war and have 13th Amendment embedded in the Constitution. I feel that the action he took should acknowledge him how he was the only president to focus on abolishing slavery. In those times, I can see that if slavery was a norm, white folks would look at Lincoln the wrong way and that is what is observed.
