8Mile Curtis Hanson created a masterpiece awarding him an Oscar, a Golden Globe nomination, along with 9 other awards and 18 other nominations. 8 Mile was one of the best movies of 2002, and remains in IMDB’s top 5000 movies of all time. Hanson tells the story of B-Rabbit, a rapper from the wrong side of Detroit’s 8 Mile. The story is loosely based off of famous rapper Eminem’s life. If you listen to Eminem’s music and wondered what a movie version of his music would be like, this movie may be for you. B-Rabbit, played by Eminem, is a wannabe rapper from Detroit. He has some problems though: he dumps his girlfriend after discovering she is pregnant; to save money and make a demo tape, he moves into his alcoholic mom’s trailer; he hates his job; and he just choked at the local rap battle. If you listen to Eminem’s music, you’ve heard about his wonderful and faithful ex-girlfriend Kim (Alex). If you’re not familiar with Kim, Eminem explains his feelings for her very well in the song “Kim,” off of his …show more content…
The themes of family and love and friendship and determination make this movie perfect for those that want to watch a heartwarming film about determination and hard work. Hanson is able to almost perfectly capture the image Eminem portrays in his music, about his mother and friends and being an underground rapper. The first time I watched 8 Mile, I was already a huge Eminem fan. The movie accurately portrayed the image I had in my head of what Eminem’s life could have resembled. The 8 Mile soundtrack is critically acclaimed to this day. The clever writing of the rap battles and the way the music always fits the scene makes the soundtrack among the best movie soundtracks ever. In fact, the soundtrack was so good, it is still one of Eminem’s best selling albums to date. Hanson shows that Rabbit’s life mistakes could end up, in the end, working out to his benefit. “The legend of the angry blonde lives on” thanks to Hanson
Rolf de Herr’s 2002 film The Tracker represented some human beings in the past who have been extremely naïve, barbarous, and bigoted when it came to dealing with Indigenous Australians. This film portrayed white racism in the characters of the Fanatic, the Veteran, and at first the Recruit until he becomes stronger and eventually changes his demeanor towards the Aboriginal people. Even though the Tracker experiences immense hardship throughout the movie he was always two steps ahead of his bosses since he was very familiar with the land and was also able to outsmart his superior officers. The Tracker is a gloomy film which presents the dark past of Australia that must never be forgotten.
The movie Dope, written and directed by Rick Famuyiwa, follows the story of Malcolm through his senior year of high school in the Inglewood California. The movie was about racial discrimination and violence with teens. The movie was placed in Harlem and showed how teens struggled with the police, gang violence and family related issues. He also starred in the movie “Poetic Justice” with Janet Jackson and played a character named Lucky. While starring in this movie, Tupac began to be more recognized as both a rapper and an actor. After the movies were produced, Tupac released 2 more albums, Strictly 4 My N.I.G.G.A.Z... and Thug Life Volume: 1. In his album, Strictly 4 My N.I.G.G.A.Z... he portrays his political and social views of the black community; in this album the song, “Keep Ya Head Up” became a gold certified single. The album Thug life: Volume 1 was by the group Thug Life which was started by Tupac and included Big Syke, Mopreme. The Rated R and Macadoshis. Due to controversial rap, the album had to be modified and re-recorded. The song “How Long Will They Mourn Me?” was later played in 1998 from 2Pac’s Greatest Hits Album. After these albums were released, many artists and record companies were reaching out to Tupac asking for advice and tips. Artists then began to follow Tupac and his ideas and he was named The Father of Rap. Rap artists began to rap about poverty, the police and other real life problems. At this time the police started to have a big impact in the songs. During his career rap became more and
Ferris Bueller is a young, rebellious, high school senior who gets away with just about everything. One day, he decides to play hooky and skip school for the ninth time. He tricks his parents into thinking he is sick with his signature fake stomach cramp and clammy palms. After his parents leave for work, Bueller calls up his rigid, hypochondriac best friend Cameron to join him on his day off. Initially refusing to leave the comfort of his bed, Cameron finally is persuaded to not only join Ferris, but to also bring his Father’s precious Ferrari out on the town. The first stop on their rebellious journey is to bail out Bueller’s girlfriend, Sloane, from school. They do so by calling Ed Rooney,
In the film, “North by Northwest” we see a series of shots that creates suspense and danger. The point of the film is very vague and it ends without a resolution to the main conflict. The incredible camera work and techniques that Alfred Hitchcock did created a feeling of danger and suspense, making the audience want to see more. Also, Hitchcock's film main character Roger O. Thornhill creates suspense with his mistaken identity and fight for his escape. The film uses a handful of shots, for example, medium shots, close ups, long shots and shot-reverse-shots. I found particularly interesting how a handful of shots can create suspense and the feeling of danger can create a misleading plot.
The movie Shock Doctrine revolves around the concept of the same name. The film begins by discussing psychological research on the effects of shock therapy. It is evident that a person under extreme stress and anxiety commonly experienced during a crisis functions and performs inadequately. It is noted that the studies are conducted by a man by the name of Milton Friedman, from the University of Chicago; the studies took place in the past, and some of the subjects are still recovering in the aftermath. From this research, interrogation techniques were learned and the concept of the shock doctrine was formed. Essentially through causing a crisis, the population of a country can be shocked into complying with accepting laws that favors the United States and capitalism. This theory coexists with Friedman’s belief in that government regulation is bad, and through a crisis a country would better itself with deregulation. The video uses Chile as an example and shows how America allowed a crisis to occur in Chile, through coups, interrogations and subterfuge. In the end a new government is formed that allows capitalism. Unfortunately afterwards violence and riots occur, as the rich gain most of the wealth and poverty rises. In addition to Chile, Argentina, Russia and even Iraq underwent the shock doctrine. Almost in every account, poverty rises and violence ends up erupting. The movie ends by showing how the US was in the process of the shock doctrine, and still is but the population has taken notice. Protests such as Occupy Wall Street are some of the initiatives necessary to bring awareness to the problems of class inequalities in order to prevent capitalism from benefitting the rich and increasing the wealth gap among the classes.

Around his neighborhood, Biggie Smalls began building a reputation as a musician under that name. After a tape landed in the hands of a well-known DJ as Mister Cee, Biggie was featured in the hip hop industry. Later on Biggie Smalls went by the name The Notorious B.I.G. In 1993 he appeared on one of Mary J Blige’s song “Real Love” and followed up with a second song with Mary J Blige called “What’s the 411.” His debut as a solo artist came with the single, "Party and Bullsh*t," on the soundtrack to the film, “Who’s the Man?”
The male gaze has been a prominent theme in movies, music and other areas of culture for a considerable amount of time. This is something that is primarily categorized by someone who is doing the looking. More specifically it is how the audience is viewing the people or person that is being represented. The male gaze is essentially something that in advertizing, and in movies enables women to become a commodity which enables products to sell, because we all know in society that sex sells, and especially in modern marketing. Something to take into consideration is the fact that woman have not had a considerable amount of involvement in film making over the past 100 years, and even today, this is still a fact. Although women tend to be involved
The lyrics of his song are filled with emotional language. In one instance, he argues with his daughter and tells Hailie that he is leaving one last time. Hailie however refuses to hear this statement. She cries out to her daddy that he always lies when he says he will not go anymore (Eminem 1). Also, Eminem has used appeals when he fills the song with emotional examples. This is because he writes in another instance that Hailie lashes out angry that he had lied to her again. "I followed you Daddy, you told me that you weren't leavin'/"You lied to me Dad, and now you make Mommy sad” (Verse 3, Line 9-10). She tells him that his lies made mommy sad. Hence, they had come to a decision to leave him behind and go their own way. His choices had proven to them that he loved his fans more than he loved his family (Eminem 1). These lines evoke emotional responses of sympathy and empathy from the singer’s audience to enable the audience to understand his dilemma. It is sad to picture a family torn apart because of the choices the parents made for the

After their deaths, Wallace and Shakur’s music can be found in many different cinematic works (examples). With the connecting over a common enemy, hip-hop has become an accepted idea that both whites and blacks enjoy today. In fact, shortly after Wallace’s death, a fresh face came into the game—Marshall “Eminem” Mathers. He went on to become one of the most significant and influential rappers of all time. Mathers is white, and would not have been able to become a part of the hip-hop scene without the conflict between the east coast and the west coast and everyone coming together because of it.
Racism towards colored people and minorities in nowadays is not like what it was used to be back in 1600s. From the instances such as Barack Obama becoming the 1st African American President in the United States ever, Oprah Winfrey becoming one of the most influential women in the world for several times, and Psy becoming the most popular Asian singer in the United States. There have been so many improvements made over the last decades towards race and ethnicity, but the Hollywood movies tell a different story. The Hollywood movies make people see and feel the stereotype towards ethnic groups. People often see white males acting the role of Asians or other minorities through the Hollywood movies.
Eminem came from poverties that many would not succeed from. Many doubted Eminem for becoming a rapper because of his color, lack of lyrical skills, and lifestyle. It even accumulated when he dropped out of high school and pursued his rapping career. He never believed of failure which motivated him to engineer his own long rhyming skills. He used his own adversities to inspire his songs which many consider masterpieces. His daughter Hailey made a great contribution towards his career as he wanted to flourish in her eyes and give all he had never had. Eminem has changed the interface of rap music and has generated a new era of rap which he will be considered as the ‘Greatest Rapper of All Time’.
