The Little Red Cap is about a young girl, who wears a red velvet cap that her grandmother had handmade for her which is why it is titled the Little Red Cap. One day her asks her to take some cake and wine to her grandmother, and tells her not to stray from the path because there is danger in the trees. While walking along the path, a wolf pops out in front of the little girl, and she tells him that she is going to her grandmother’s house to drop off some wine and cake. Without thinking clearly, she tells the wolf the exact directions to her grandmother 's house and he persuades her to go pick flowers for the grandmother off the path. When she finally arrives to grandmother’s house, she is shocked at how big some of grandmas features are and says “Oh, grandmother, what big ears you have!”, “OH, grandmother, what big eyes you have!”, “OH, grandmother, what big hands you have!" and "Oh, grandmother, what a horribly big mouth you have!”. She then realizes that grandmother isn’t grandmother it’s the wolf and he eats the little girl as well as already have eaten the grandmother. A woodsman hears the wolf 's satisfied snores and thought he better check in on the old lady and finds the wolf. Next, we talked about her social development and how she only has social interaction with her mom and grandmother and is very secluded, they also never mentioned friends. Then we talked about her emotional development, and how she is in good health, she knows who she is, she knows her close family is and has developed close attachments with mom and grandma. Finally, we talked about how scary and dangerous it is for a young girl to walk through the woods to go to grandmother’s house. Susie’s mother opened the door to let Molly, Susie’s babysitter, inside. Ten-month old Susie seemed happy to see Molly. Susie then observed her mother put her jacket on and Susie’s face turned from smiling to sad as she realized that her mother was going out. Molly had sat for Susie many times in the past month, and Susie had never reacted like this before. When Susie’s mother returned home, the sitter told her that Susie had cried until she knew that her mother had left and then they had a nice time playing with toys until she heard her mother’s key in the door. During the previous life stage, Early Adolescence, several developmental tasks had to be dealt with by the subject. While physical maturation was going on Anne had problems with severe acne and had no real growth spurt. To this day she remains only five feet tall. Her development of formal operations came at a normal rate for adolescence. However, during these years her emotional development led to a bout of depression. She did not have many friends and would therefore sit home only many nights. This lead to difficulty finding a peer group to fit into. Once she found a group of friends to join she started dating. Anne became sexually involved with her first boyfriend and became pregnant. She decided that it would be best to terminate the pregnancy and continue on with school.
Marie’s grandparent’s had an old farm house, which was one of many homes in which she lived, that she remembers most. Middle childhood is the time where children start to fully develop their skills. They develop their comprehension skills, communication skills, and many more. In order to get a better look into the life of children during this stage, I decided to observe my niece’s friend, Ryan, who is almost at the end of her middle childhood stage. Ryan is an eleven year old girl who attends Bassett Elementary. I choose to observe Ryan because, she is a very unique girl who does not always fit into what the average girl her age is like.
The small legs that whisked back and forth in the open space of the vehicle were full of energy. The young girl spent the day with the two people she admired the most. A bigger version of herself sat in the passenger seat with her husband driving next to her. They laughed over conversation. Every so often, the girl would stick thin fingers against her mother’s shoulder to receive her attention. She would say something trivial and obvious, but her mother would still entertain her. Little Red Riding Hood retold by the Brothers Grimm version by Paul Galdone includes a "sweet little maiden" (Galdone 1) who never wears anything else but a little red velvet cloak, given to her by her Grandmother. Little Red Riding Hood's mother asks her to take cake and a bottle of wine to her Grandmother. The wolf in the woods is very talented as in she is somewhat convincing in the story. She first approaches Little Red Riding Hood in the woods keeping her calm with polite conversation and convinces her then to pick the beautiful flowers, meanwhile, she scurried away to Grandmother's cottage to devour Grandmother; later to devour Little Red Riding Hood. The wolf later lay there in Grandmother's bed convincingly as Grandmother in Grandmother's cap down over her face. After convincing Little Red Riding Hood to approach the wolf then devours her. The heroin turns out to be a huntsman, whom "took a knife and began cutting open the sleeping wolf" (Galdone 26) when out popped Little Red Riding Hood and Grandmother. “Little Red Cap” quickly became a household tale among children and adults, due to the imperative lessons that it directs to children and their parents'. Behind the initial story lies a message which, ”Cautions young girls to mind their mothers and not stray from the path to wander in the forbidden woods” (Rholetter). The forest represents any unfamiliar place that children can easily become lost within, while the path to grandmother’s house can represent a place the child is accustomed to. As soon as Little Red Cap begins her journey, she is confronted by a wolf. When they first meet, the wolf acts as a polite gentleman would towards any young lady which earns Little Red Cap’s trust instantly, "Little Red Cap, just where does your grandmother live? said the Wolf. Little Red Cap eagerly replied, Her house is a good quarter hour from here in the woods, under the three large oak trees. There's a hedge of hazel bushes there. You must know the place”(Grimm). Mara was a beautiful girl; she lived with her mother and two sisters. Mara was very smart. She would always made sure that she was her best at very thing she did. One thing about her was that she was very competitive. She always made sure that she was the best in her class. She loved to read. She began reading at an early stage. When she was in middle school, she wouldn’t do things girls her age did. She would stay in side her home most of the time reading or doing her house work. She loved her mother and her to sister, to an extent that she would sacrifice what she has to help her family out.
