In the TV series The Joe Schmo show and Modern Family there are two main themes that occur. The first theme was instant, stereotypes and it is the first thing you notice when watching these shows. The second theme is honesty and both shows have a twist on the idea of honesty. The reality TV shows gives the illusion of real life. The Joe Schmo show by spike TV is a very stereotypical show with the gay black dude and an over achieving Asian. Chase is surrounded by stereotypes in which he believes real. The first stereotype is the big gay black guy. They wanted to see how Chase can react at any obstacle they put near him. The producers wanted to test his comfort level so they add a guy who defines brown as mocha and khaki, questioning Chase’s comfort with gays. Of course not! In the end they are honest but everyone has their secrets. Hailey tells her parents that the concert she wants to go to is supervised. Her parents see right through that and stop her from going with her boyfriend Dylan. The son of Gloria, Mani likes a girl and denies the enjoyment of Trans fats just to impress her. His mother Gloria is shocked that he would deny his favorite food just for a girl. In the end he tells his mother he prefers the food. This is realistic because a male will lie about his favorite things just to impress a girl. In reality TV, Joe Schmo and modern are both honest in everyday life. Joe Schmo hides information from chase who’s just an average guy trying to win a dream. Mani from modern family lies to the girl he likes just to impress her. The audience is able to relate to both shows and understand their point of view. The truth hurts as the characters found out, Gloria and Chase were both revealed what other characters know or believe. The truth was hidden from a character in order to continue the show and relate it to everyday
