There are a slim amount of writers who have the ability to capture the attention of an entire generation in the way that J.K. Rowling has. Rowling has been known as the writer to one of the bestselling series, the Harry Potter Books. Her style of writing has a way of casting a spell over her audience, sending them on a wild emotional ride throughout the entirety of the series. J.K Rowling is an amazing character herself and it is quite evident to see through her childhood, her early years, and leading up to her booming success in her career and charitable acts. It was relevant at an early age that Rowling had a yearning desire for reading and novels. She enjoyed reading C.S. Lewis’ Narnia, but the book that topped her list was The Little White Horse by Elizabeth Goudge (2000). Joanne attended school at “the state-run Wyedean Comprehensive School” (J.K Rowling). During her years, her favorite subject was English. In her senior year at Wyedean, she received the honor of becoming the “head girl” which was a symbolic honor more or less (2010). At a very young age it was evident Rowling had a passion for writing. When she was only six years old, Rowling would write little stories involving things that were familiar to her; the stories may have not contained a strong proof of talent to write novels, but showed an interest in the idea as a young child. Rowling has made millions off of her books, averaging about 584 million dollars yearly (MNN). However, being one of the most profitable writers of our time, her name stays off of the Forbes Billionaire list due to the large amounts of money she donates yearly (MNN). It has been Estimated that Joanne had donated over 160 million dollars in one year alone. She stated, “You have a moral responsibility when you’ve been given far more than you need, to do wise things with it and give intelligently” (MNN). Not only does Rowling donate money to various charities, but she also has founded one herself to do more for others. J.K Rowling’s charity, Lumos was created in 2004, after being informed about children being held in caged bed cells in institutions from the Sunday Times (About). Rowling’s passion for her charity is easy to see, especially when she decided to action off one of her own personal special edition The Tales of Beedle the Bard, going for a staggering 1.95 million Euros (about 2.18 million dollars); all of the funds went towards her charity.
