La Plata, Argentina is the capital city of Buenos Aires located on the eastern side of Argentina. The city of La Plata includes a river called Río de la Plata or the River of Silver. The Río de la Plata empties into the Atlantic Ocean in southeastern South America. In the city of La Plata, pollution is an environmental hazard. Pollutions can effect the environment in many ways like harming animals and plants, increasing temperatures, and lung cancer.
La Plata, Argentina is experiencing many environmental hazards but the most dangerous hazard is pollution. There are two types of pollution in La Plata: air and water pollution. Vehicles such as cars, trucks, buses, trains, and airplanes cause great amounts of air pollution. Many industries also create air pollution. The air pollution could potentially harm all the living things in the environment and result to lung cancer or difficulties breathing. Water pollution is also seen throughout the city of La Plata, Argentina. This pollution is especially seen in the Río de la Plata causing it to turn brown. The Supreme Court of Argentina decided to create a clean up day in 2008. This day was created to clean up the river basin. Unfortunately, this day was not successful. In fact, on the clean up day, the Río de la Plata was polluted when many trash and chemical dumps were dumped in the river. In 1998, the EcoPlata project began and became another way Argentina was responding to the pollution in the Río de la Plata. This project was made to manage, preserve, and use the Río de la Plata’s resources economically. The EcoPlata project is also trying to fundraise money to expand the project. To decrease the air pollution, La Plata mainly uses trains and buses instead of multiple personal cars. Using fewer vehicles helps reduce the pollution
