Overview of Myers-Briggs Personality Types
People with extraverted sensing feeling judging (ESFJ) personalities are known to be hard workers who value being in charge. One of the biggest strengths for ESFJs is the ability to recognize problems and delegate to resolve them. They are also known to play hard and find joy in entertaining others. Generally speaking ESFJs “wear their hearts on their sleeves” and therefore are easily wounded and have a difficult time controlling their emotions. While this trait is a weakness for many ESFJs it is also a strength as actors and actresses use this to express emotions through acting (Human Metrics Inc., 1998-2016).

Socialites at heart so they enjoy being around people and communicate well with others. They are loyal to both their employers and the people they care about, making them an honorable partner and friend (NERIS Analytics Limited, 2011). In addition, they are proficient at recognizing problems and delegating both qualities of a great leader.
Weaknesses for ESFJ’s are their emotions. Feelings are easily bruised, and once this happens they have difficulty controlling their emotions. Constructive criticism is not taken lightly and they are sensitive when someone is trying to help them. Placing a considerable amount of importance on what is socially acceptable results in the inability to step out of their comfort zone (NERIS Analytics Limited, 2011).
Steps ESFJ’s can take to improve when working within a group are accepting constructive criticism. Realizing we all have areas of opportunities and improving on our weaknesses only make us a better person and leader. Learning to control your emotions, is key to being successful. Recognizing you need a moment and step away for a minute to calm down and gather your thoughts. Many times it will point out personality traits you did not realize you had, giving you the opportunity to improve your weaknesses to become a better person. As a manager, the advantage of having your team take the test and knowing their results can help you understand how they perceive things and what causes them to act in certain ways (The Myers & Briggs Foundation, 2016). This can really help a manager understand an employee so they can work together to ensure they are the most productive.
