Above is my immediate family, which is graphed by simple facts into this genogram. All of the information that was included into this genogram was known information. Since all of these family members are still alive, it made it easier to compile this information. Each specific family has its own dynamic. With my parents and brother, we are not that tight-knit; I don’t share every inch of my life and haven’t for many years, but equally they do not ask. Whereas, my mother and her brother along with her parents are very tight knit. They share everything and do a lot of things together, while being more conservative with their actions and behavior. They are always on their best behavior. On the flip side, my father and his parents and …show more content…
My mother and her family are very open, too open for my test. While, my father’s side of the family is not that open, which has translated into my family. Due to the fact that my brother is special needs, I was not under my parent’s constant watchful eye. That allowed me to live my life and not be around all the time, especially in high school. I would not say that my parents and me have an estranged relationship, it is just not an open one. I have never had the sex talk with my parents or drugs, etc. They have only ever met one of my boyfriends and they didn’t know he was my boyfriend at the time that they met him. Even with the not so open lines of communication, I knew never to cross the line with my parents. I knew their opinions and the way they felt about situations, so I was always sure to never cross the line, although I will admit that I tiptoed it. I think the text states that, “The anxiety underlying an unemployed person’s ability to provide for his or her family is bound to negatively affect the family’s dynamics and to challenge the assumption that the family is always a loving refuge.” I think that without open lines of communication, the family is not that support system that one …show more content…
Which is good, because I disagree with my family on ninety-five percent of their political and social ideas or agendas. My entire family is from a very small, rural town in the southern part of North Carolina, many of them this is all they know. Almost all of them are conservative Republicans, except for my mother and myself. My mother and I are both democrats, with me being the more liberal one especially on social issues. Due to our varying ideas about politics and our inability to communicate, I often try to stay away from my family when politics are discussed. I would say that sex is a taboo topic in our household, it is not spoken of and not referenced. Which I believe should never be a taboo topic, due to the fact that the world is becoming very sexualized in almost every way. I think that if those lines of communication had been established when I was younger, it would not be so taboo

I will first begin by summarizing the plot of Family by Pa Chin and the plot of Some Prefer Nettles by Junichiro Tanizaki and summarizing the characters as I go along. I will then explain how the two authors constructed their characters on modernity and tradition and conclude this paper by explaining the themes of the novels and how I would compare the two novels.

A requirement in being an early childhood teacher, is to fulfill the needs, of the children and families I will work for. In chapter one, you have the Lawrence and Ashley Family. In the Lawrence family, they are a married couple, which means more income for the family. Whereas the Ashley family has one income. In addition, to the Ashley family, having one income and dealing with the state can bring heartache and struggles to buy food, clothes, housing, school supplies and other day to day activities. Therefore, I need to comprehend the lives of the families I work for and to be aware of the circumstances of the individual families. To the same degree. I need to respect the boundaries; of the families I work for. Trust is a must. With no trust, there is no communication and things get can get
According to the United States Department of Labor, 58.6 percent of women are active participants in the work force, making up 47 percent of all workers in the country. Despite this fact, mainstream television shows like ABC’s Modern Family choose to portray their adult female characters in a way that is no longer representative of the current American experience. Modern Family unintentionally projects an image of the stay-at-home mother to its audience as an ethical and moral norm. Characters such as Gloria Pritchett are portrayed as good for nothing except shopping, being attractive, and always ready to be the trophy on her husband’s arm. Other maternal characters on the show try to branch out into the working world but fail, teaching the audience that their place is in the home. These characters include the excessively feminized Cameron Tucker, and the neurotic homemaker Claire Dunphy. These portrayals send an unintended and unethical message to viewers. This message attempts to make the case that a woman’s place is at home, and if she chooses to branch of her confined space she will undoubtedly fall flat.
My Family Case Study will examine the ‘Nguyen’ family and their current struggle with family finances. I will present the family, their history, and their response to the challenge of dealing with the crisis related to the family finances.
A general overview of the rules and family health lecture is based on family communication that focuses on health related topics. For example, talking to kids about sex and alcohol abuse, responsibilities of taking care of an aging member of the family, social support, and briefly mentions how people grieve differently after a family member passes away. During the class lecture I have chosen three concepts/ideas I consider important to help discuss the CPM theory. The first idea that I have chosen is the Life Span Perspective, which focuses on how we adapt our communication behaviors based on the changes that family’s experience throughout the lifespan (Turner & West, 2006). For example, when a child
As a child, I was surround by political standpoints, my republican grandfather, my democratic grandmother, my liberalist cousins, and thus, there was a lot of conflict when it came down to who was better and why they were better. However when I decided to take a lean towards the independent route due to the circling in my family, despite the fact even independents can get confusing at times too. I will go in depth about what independents are, our ideologies, a last known candidate and of course what I believe in that makes me this way.
Human resources are skills, talent and qualities that are passed down by people by sharing and teaching them. Human resources are intangible, they are anything that cannot be touched or seen. Knowledge originates in many forms; it is anything that you remembered, observed or learned. Skills are as simple as riding a bicycle or budgeting and talent is like singing or cooking incredible food like Curtis Stone. Personal qualities are very important for a person because it defines who you are; if you are outgoing or able to express your emotions, these are examples of your own personal qualities. Energy is very useful for finishing things like homework or working out. Time is very limited for everyone. Family and friends are very wise and help provide excellent human resources.
The television sitcom Modern Family produced by Steven Levitan and Christopher Lloyd shows the many different types of a modern American family. According to Andrew Hampp, “The show is among the most-viewed scripted programs in prime time in its second season, averaging 11 million viewers during original airings and often ranked as the most DVRed program most weeks” (2). The television show is a frequently watched show and is liked by many viewers. Modern Family's storyline helps the families of viewers by being an influential and relatable show to different types of families. The show is about the lives of three different families that are all related. In the show there are Jay and Gloria, an intergenerational couple with two sons-- Manny (from Gloria’s previous relationship) and Joe, their new baby. Jay’s adult son Cameron is married to his gay partner Mitchell, and they adopted Lily from Vietnam. Finally, Jay’s daughter Claire is married to her heterosexual partner named Phil and they have three children. The show is influential to our culture today because it shows these different types of families and addresses controversial themes such as gay adoption, the different family connections and communications, intergenerational coupling, and acceptance of diversity within an extended family. The family is easy to relate to while watching because it is based off of real family situations.
The composition of my family unit growing up was two older sisters and three older brothers and I am the baby of the family out of six children. Of course, my parents and the family dog a dachshund named Snoopy was also the family as well we never had many animals and when the dog got hurt and got put to sleep we never got another dog. The difference in age between my sisters and I are 16 and 15 years apart and they got married and started families of their own and the age difference between me and my oldest niece is only four years apart. In addition, my oldest sister played more of a mother role than a sister and my nieces and nephews were more like brothers and sisters growing up because they were closer in age.
The internal family composition is a nuclear family that consists of the husband, wife and their new baby girl. Heterosexual couples that have been married for about 8 years and live alone in their condo. The husband has a high school degree but the wife graduated from college. He is self-employed and works as a mechanic while she works as a quality manager. Subsystems within the family include husband-wife, father-child, and mother-child. The couples have no other children. In terms of boundaries, the couples are both shared breadwinner and they share responsibilities in their home. She does most of the indoor chores like cooking and laundry while he does the cleaning and sometimes cooks. This is their first child and
If I had to choose one major life event that has shaped my development, I would have to say it was my parents getting divorced. While it didn’t initially affect me too much at the time, as far as I can remember, it completely changed the way I was being raised at the time and who was influencing me. While I am not sure how someone else in my position would have reacted, I think divorced parents has become a norm in our society and I would say that is something kids are usually able to adapt to.
The social institution I have chosen to address is that of family. An individual’s family life, both past and present, can have such a big impact on a person’s life in both a positive and negative manner. It is how we as individuals chose to handle life changing situations that will shape our lives and those around us. Family is such a fascinating social institution to study because every individual comes from a different family background or has a different experience than that of a sibling. You can learn so many things about a person by looking into their family background, origin and what type of up brining they had.
As Proverbs 6:20 says “My son, keep your father's commandment, and forsake not your mother's teaching.” The book The Successful Family” written by Ellen G. White, it highlights certain principles, morals and values which are vital for the successful development of the family unit. The book is made up of sections designated to each member of the family, in which each person has different responsibilities which must be carried out in order for the unit to work, these sections also help us to understand each member of the family as unique individuals, who have various needs and feelings
