This essay briefly outlines my thought process and decisions made writing my essay problematizing language.The struggles picking a topic. Selecting my sources, and how I feel they supported me and my paper are all presented here. With language being such a broad topic it was hardest to pick one topic to focus on. Even when its narrowed down to English it's still a broad topic. I wanted to focus on something that I understood well, and I knew was relatable to others. Selecting a topic was almost the least of my struggles, after that came, selecting sources, and demonstrating how they were related. Writing has been part of my life ever since I learned how to spell my first words. As I use the writing process I had to evolve and learn grammar, orthodoxy, and punctuation. I learned all this in my language which is Spanish. The writing rules are very different in different languages and after having an idea on how to write in English, I always refer back to what I learned in my early years. As I write in English I have faced many challenges to include learning to think in English before I write. I am use to think in Spanish and therefore the words flow as a river with minimum effort on my part. I have tried to think in Spanish, translate my thoughts and then writing in English but has proven to be the most difficult process to follow. As I wrestled with the idea of writing in English and learning to think in English, my writing has become better with each assignment. As I reflect on how my writing has evolved, it is my intention to compare how the different tools and genres of writing had helped me write academically papers and how I expect to continue to better myself for mu future, even after I graduate from college.

Being a new college student can be tough. Balancing new work levels, trying to manage your time & also getting enough sleep are the main difficulties for a new college student coming straight from high school in my opinion. These problems can be easily solved by going to class and using the resources that are provided to you. This may not seem difficult but in reality it 's right in front of your face.

Language is thought to be a complex system; however, it can be broken down into three different components. These three components consist of content, form, and use. Within these three components, language has five main components which includes semantics, morphology, phonology, syntax, and pragmatics (Owens, 2012, p. 18).

Growing up learning and speaking English has been something that was difficult for me at first but then came easy, but that was not the case for my mother. She spent her whole life speaking Spanish, so when she decided to take English learning classes it was challenging. However, she had me to help her throughout her struggle. I helped her complete her homework and assignments. We would also go to the library to check out easy level reading books to have her read to me. I would correct her English when it was wrong and do all I could to boost her confidence.
