From the above realization, Maslow then developed the last and most supreme of human needs. This was the self-transcendence level. This is the need to behave in a manner that is an end and not just a means towards everything and everyone in the universe (Lester, 2013).
Weaknesses: It has been established that the needs are not universally arranged in the hierarchy proposed by Maslow. Moreover, the needs often are intertwined and can pursued at in unison. Maslow himself came to appreciate the fact that the needs can be entirely placed into some hierarchy considering that humans do not have similar priorities all over the globe (Lester, 2013).

Biological Component: The hierarchy of needs theory addresses this component through recognition of the basic needs one is born with. A child is born breastfeeding which is a perfect example of biological component of motivation towards behavior. Freud also addresses this component in his theory when he attaches development of instincts that motivate behavior to the rudimentary personality component known as the id. All actions that seem to stem out of need for fulfilment without further consideration are attached to the id.
Cognitive Component: Maslow addresses this component through inclusion of esteem needs as a behavior motivation. Esteem is a cognitive construct and as such, behaviors that seek either higher or lower esteem are all motivated by one’s cognition. Freud also addresses this component by introducing the role of the superego and ego on shaping instincts. This means that an individual’s cognition through the ego and superego regulates the desires of the id to come up with the instinct that informs
