Jake’s origin of his Anxiety Disorder stemmed from the rise in the difficulty of his classes. More specifically, it could have been a behavioral, humanistic, and/or a cognitive factor of which induced his anxiety. Depending on how the counselor came up with Jake’s diagnosis, comparative analysis can be applied to the three possible variable factors of Jake’s counselor’s reasoning, and how other psychologists view each of the same behavioral, humanistic, and cognitive factors today. A Behaviorist believes that all behavior is the result of activated stimuli based off of an individual’s environment. Additionally, Humanistic Psychology studies how people value themselves. Today’s Psychologists are often faced with problems when diagnosing patients, and utilizing a Humanistic approach to their prognosis facilitates a more broad study of what may be occurring. Taking a step back, Jake is having a tough time with his classes; his classes are now more difficult than before, and they might be affecting how Jake perceives his own values. I.e. because Jake feels more nervous, he could be losing his sense of control, which goes against his personal growth and affects his values and image of himself. Applying the humanistic approach to Jake, his fulfillment as a student is his personal growth. However as the difficulty of his classes increase, so does his own personal perception on how much he is growing. For Jake, realizing that he’s not suited for a particular difficult class is upsetting and induces anxiety. For instance, Behavioral and Cognitive Psychology both utilize the basic scientific method for addressing particular issues, as well as research, but Humanistic Psychology does not utilize the scientific method and instead claims because humans differ from animals given humans are capable of reason, thought, and language. Behavioral, Cognitive, and Humanistic Psychologies conduct their research by observing. By paraphrasing the three psychologies’ definitions, all of them come up with their analyses by studying the human mind, behavior, and the outcome based off of particular stimuli. In Jake’s situation, by studying how his mind and behavior were compensating with his difficult classes, all three psychologies would have rational explanations of which why Anxiety Disorder is an appropriate diagnosis. How Behavioral, Cognitive, and Humanistic Psychology differ, though, is by how they all come to their same conclusions. The behavioral approach explained Jake’s anxiety because of his reaction with certain stimuli given changes in environment, the cognitive approach explained his diagnosis with previous genetic relevance, and the humanistic approach explained Jake’s Anxiety Disorder because of his change in his own
