In “The Truth about Black Lives Matter,” the editorial board argues that the Republican Party casts the "Black Lives Matter" movement as a hateful anti-white expression. This movement has been the result of wildly executed "state sanctioned violence", as well, as "racial terror" on individuals of the black community. According to the original editorial, The Republican Party deems the “Black Lives Matter” movement as “inflammatory” and “anti-white”. However, it is only when events such as the killing of Treyvon Martin and Michael Brown along with the vindication of their killers occur that we experience the rise of this movement. This goes to show that the movement was ultimately generated from a sense of injustice toward said victim’s deaths, as well, as to black individuals as a coherent body, rather than from a source of hate for white individuals. The board suggests that the intent of this demeaning campaign by these individuals has been to convince the phrase "Black Lives Matter is a hateful statement that has no legitimate place in the civil rights campaign." However, the phrase "Black …show more content…
The Republican Party and people in opposition have tried to paint all respects of this movement in a bad light. However, when one perceives of what “Black Lives Matter” is ultimately based on, it becomes evident that it executes positive ideas and morally upstanding vitality into the public as a way of demanding a radical change. Nonetheless, as senses of “racism” and “hate” continue to bombard this movement, it will always be seen as something negative, so the ultimate conclusion has to be a change of heart and mind. A change that will not only accept the underlying cry for justice and freedom of the “Black Lives Matter” movement, but one that will also contribute to everyone valuing a black life as much as they do their
The change in policies orient the Richmond Police force into a manner in which they are able to interact with individuals without being overtly and overly aggressive. Richmond officers are oriented to defuse high-tension situations and be reminded that the person they are dealing with are indeed human, a person like anyone else. One of the reasons why Richmond Police officers deal with situations with the least amount of force, is because of the new training regime that was that instated in 2008, according to Mercury News (2014), by Chief Magnus. Chief Magnus instated a very rigorous and diverse training segment based on solely dealing with the use of force at the training facilities and the streets of Richmond. There are people in America that makes us wonder why there is a world to begin with. There are people who represent the greater good of the world, and there are others who are unfortunately not for the greater good of the world. We have to constantly deal with those whose only goal in life is to bring the lives of others down to the ground; to shatter and to break them. This is what is happening now in the world, and this most likely will never change. As a result of trying to change the ways in which we live and interact with these people, there was a movement that wanted to change the lives of African-Americans, as well as other races. This movement was called “Black Lives Matter”. The people who were responsible for the creation of
Black lives matter is a social media movement that went of the Ferguson, Gardner cases etc. Also very rapidly it was to show as a opposition to the police and cops. Somehow when saying black lives matter it was like saying all life matter don’t matter. It’s a touchy subject due to why people view things and for most case I can understand. I feel that the person that made black life’s matter didn’t mean for it to be just all about black life but to inform others around the nation that there is a special problem that is only happening in the African American community and we have fix that issue . we as a society has to recognize this that the African American are not making this up this its not something being politicalized its real and there’s a history behind it so we have to seriously.
American is known for its rich culture and diversity. Black lives matter (BLM) is an international activist movement, originating in the African-American community, that campaigns against violence and systemic racism toward black people as defined by google. It was created in 2012 as a call to action for black people after seventeen year old Trayvon Martin was placed on trial for his own murder and the killer, George Zimmerman, was not held accountable for the crime that he had committed. It was a response for the anti-Black racism that still remains in our society and within the movement itself. It is a movement that goes beyond the killing of black people by police and vigilantes. It calls for the Black community to love each other, live
Beyoncé, a popular recording artist, released her new song “Formation,” drawing massive amounts of attention to the Black Lives Matter movement. Black Lives Matter is an international activist movement originating in the African-American community. Members of the movement regularly organize protests following the deaths of innocent Black people and instances of racial profiling and racial inequality. The Black Lives Matter movement started in 2013 after the death of Trayvon Martin, an unarmed black teen. A year later, the movement grew nationally after two men, Mike Brown and Eric Garner, were killed by police officers. The media has spread the phrase “Black Lives Matter,” giving communities the chance to understand the movement and gain knowledge
Black Lives Matter is a movement founded by Opal Tometi and Patrisse Cullors in response to the tragic death of Trayvon Martin, at the hands of a police officer. Black Lives Matter focuses on the importance of the lives of black people, particularly black men who are the constant target of police brutality in the United States. Other movements began as a response to Black Lives Matter such as the All Lives Matter movement. The focus of this movement was to combat the exclusive focus on the importance of black lives, claiming it marginalized the importance of other people’s lives. Movements such as All Lives Matter are not only unnecessary, but also harmful to the mission of movements like Black Lives Matter, highlighting the necessity for a
In recent American culture, people have not peacefully practiced civil disobedience and have been unable to phrase their goals succinctly to the media. Marches and protests for the Black Lives Matter movement have sometimes involved violence. Because the Black Lives Matter movement is not an internationally connected movement and various people who may not practice formal civil disobedience can become involved, the movement has gained a negative reputation. The movement
One misconception of this movement is that it is a movement that says Black lives matter more than others. While this is not true, a large amount of people strongly agree with that statement. However, most of the people that disagree with this movement disagree because they are color-blind to the racism in the society. In actuality, according to Blacklivesmatter.com, “#BlackLivesMatter is a call to action and a response to the virulent anti-Black racism that permeates our society. Black Lives Matter is a unique contribution that goes beyond extrajudicial killings of Black people by police and vigilantes.” The BLM movement is not just about the killings of Black people it is about all the injustices all African Americans face. For example, when an African American walks through a parking lot there is an immediate reaction to make sure the car is locked because unconsciously people view African Americans as dangerous and scary. When a white person walks through a parking lot there is not the same reaction as there is for an African American. The BLM movement wants to eradicate the subtle color-blind racism as well as the blatant racism that is being displayed in the media. Another large misconception of the Black Lives Matter is that the people that are a part of the BLM movement do not care or consider black-on-black crime. The people that are a part of the BLM movement realize that there is a crime problem among black people; however, they do not believe that Black people are more violent than other races. The BLM movement says that because African Americans are in poorer communities compared to white people they are more susceptible to be targeted by police and arrested more often than
The Movement 4 Black Lives (M4BL) policy platform recognizes the wars and harm that has been done and is still being doing to Black individuals and communities. The platform’s goal is to put an end to what has been happening to Black people economically, institutionally, physically, etc. Although all their collective needs and vision can not be translated and implemented into a policy, but policy tactics is an effective way to move towards a better fit and world for African-American/Black people. The Movement 4 Black Lives (M4BL) policy platform addresses not only marginalized Black people, which includes but is “not limited to those who are women, queer, trans, femmes, gender nonconforming, Muslim, formerly and currently incarcerated, cash
The issues of how technology is influencing our nation today has come into play with social media and surveillance in our personal lives. We use twitter, Facebook, Instagram, etc. to express our opinions on things and as a voice to inform people on what’s going on in today’s society. We have learned how to use the tools we’ve been given to change our lives forever; our government has access to all of our personal information in exchange for our protection against terrorism. In Bijan Stephen’s article on “Black Lives Matter” and Rebecca McKinnon’s chapter on “the Arab Spring”, they both touch on the power of technology in negative and positive ways.
“#BlackLivesMatter was created in 2012 after Trayvon Martin’s murderer, George Zimmerman, was acquitted for his crime, and dead 17-year old Trayvon was post-humously placed on trial for his own murder.” (#BlackLivesMatter,2012).The topic Black Lives Matter because it 's just a strong topic so many lives have been lost with absolutely no justice, just young lives lost. This movement has changed the society because people are stepping out for what they believe in and saying that something needs to give because this is happening to way too many Young Black Men. What people are standing up for is how our society can be helped by this movement. To this day countless lives are being lost with no justice. Society has to put themselves in other people
If the lives of the mistreated blacks truly matter, the people that want to change the way things happen they would reach out in a peaceful way and engage others. Instead of acting out with violence and hatred. Overall, the movement should come together as one and actively speak against the "unjust" and "wrong doing ". All across the news and social media it has been mentioned and showed many times how the Black Lives Matter movement protests turn into violent outburst, in which many times harm those black lives that they are trying to protect and support. Instead of making matters worse there should be a plan to defeat the difficulties peacefully and correct the ignorance with a powerful but sympathetic stance. The only way one can truly start change is within themselves; people cannot expect others to help or see your vision of a better [equal] world. If all results seen from performances are malice and bitterness towards the

When a person thinks about Black Lives Matter, he or she may visualize African Americans fighting for justice and equality. The movement Black Lives Matter was created to bring awareness to systematic racism, police brutality and social injustice that African Americans face on a daily basis. In contrary, All Lives Matter downplays the fact that black people are looked down upon in society. All Lives Matter may seem like an innocent title, but it emphasizes that justice for black people is not necessary. Black Lives Matter is not a movement that believes all lives do not matter; nevertheless, it highlights the fact that black lives are taken for granted by the judicial system.
One of the most prominent grassroots movements currently at work in the United States is, undoubtedly, the Black Lives Matter movement. A multifaceted reform movement, it tackles the issue of institutionalized racism against black people in the United States. The movement began as a hashtag on Twitter in 2013 in response to the acquittal of George Zimmerman in the Treyvon Martin case. Zimmerman shot Martin to death, claiming it was in self defense as he felt the young man looked threatening because it was dark and he was wearing a hoodie. He was acquitted of both manslaughter and second degree murder. Activists felt that this case was an extreme example of how little value black lives seem to have to the greater community. How could a young, unarmed black person get shot and killed while the white person who shot him simply gets to walk away? This all started as an anti-racist
