The idea of writing at any school level or in life is seen more as a grueling task than enjoyable experience. In the novel, Bird by Bird, the author Anne Lamott is speaking to a generation of writers, who may be struggling with the process. The content is rich with stories to help the writer analyze his or her own life to add it to their writing style, a concept that may be hard for some people. Bird by Bird is an effective book, because Lamott includes not only writing tips, but a sense of humor along with life advice. Lamott has a very different writing style compared to many authors. The way Lamott describes is for people who have experienced a little bit of life, and have a background in certain situations. She uses some deep stories about death, and her own life that is not meant for a younger crowd. I believe she succeeds in reaching this audience because as a college student she not only helped me with writing advice, but also life itself. I would recommend this book to anyone who may be struggling with the writing process, along with life. I have not found many books that can tie in a variety of topics and be so well written. I enjoyed being able to forget about the writing process at points and in a way re-evaluate my own life and reflect. In all I believe Bird by Bird was an excellent book to read for this course. As someone who did not enjoy writing throughout high school, Lamott helped me pour my soul into my own writing again and find my own joys through writing. I have been able to find assignments easier and not as dreadful because of Lamott’s explanations. She taught me that adding your personality to your writing such as humor can help you as a writer. I found this process enjoyable and really enjoyed getting back into reading and

Lamott suggests in “Shitty First Drafts” that many people imagine good writers as being able to miraculously put out a complete and polished piece of work in one sitting. She also plainly reminds the reader that this is an idealized fantasy. Writing is hard work, and it can be very intimidating. To overcome this, she offers the
In "Shitty First Drafts" by Anne Lamott expresses the reality of famous writing like herself. Writing isn't something that just comes naturally, its a process. As students today are taught in schools of simple writing due to the teachers assigning the main topic and demonstrates the 5 paragraph papers that the final draft should look like in order to be completed, which students still use this method today, at least I know I do. Thousands of famous writer's brainstorm and go through multiple concepts to get just a topic down to write about. As Anne explains her processes readers can gather her information to help them in their writing as well. This is were the story of Anne Lamott sinks in, this isn't just a story about writers like herself
Gwendolyn Brooks once said “I felt that I had to write. Even if I had never been published, I knew that I would go on writing, enjoying it, and experiencing the challenge”. For some, writing may not be enjoyable or easy, but for Brooks writing was her life. Gwendolyn Brooks not only won countless awards, but also influenced the lives of several African Americans.
In this day and age, writing is being portrayed through various mediums, such as film and television. Some of those portrayals depict writing as both good and bad depending on the situation that is present. Authors such as, by E. Shelley Reid, Kevin Roozen, and Anne Lamott all write about important writing concepts that are being depicted in films, like Freedom Writers. The film Freedom Writers shows a positive and accurate portrayal of writing in the sense that the writers should have a connection to what they are writing about, writing is a form of communication, and that writing does not have to be perfect the first time.
Some people write for entertainment and some people write for fortune, but other people write to tell the world their story and enlighten us to life’s lessons. Literary fiction is created to do more than just merely entertain. It is created to tell a story, to take the reader from one mindset to another and bring about the reader’s understanding of the purpose. Literary fiction explores innate conflicts of the human condition through cosmic writing. Richard Wright chooses to use this kind of writing to reach the world. Wright grew up in a time where he was denied many privileges because of his color and he really made a point to express his feelings to us through his writing. His life, works and short story “A Man Who Was Almost a Man contribute directly to his literary style.
“”Bird” is a realistic fiction novel written by angela johnson. It's more like you're reading a poem rather than an actual book. Thirteen year old Bird decides to leave home and go search for her second father who left without saying goodbye. Bird lives in a shed that belongs to another family, she scavenges off the family that lives there. Each character in the book has their own sort of “heart problem” while Birds being that she lost her stepfather and she wants to have normal family.
I usually don't read or focus on different styles of writing. I think the fear of indifference and confusion makes me not want to explore but also my patience isn't there. Reading these two essays it was really interesting seeing the contrast of personality and different style types of writing. I enjoyed the humor that Lamott showed but I also liked how detailed and clever Didion was. Didion talks about how much the effect writers have on readers while Lamott talks about how much effect the readers have on the writers. Lamott shows shes almost scared for anyone(reader) to read her first drafts but Didion describes how the writers have a “tactic of a secret bully” on the readers mind. After reading this it made me realize my writing is important
TXT: “From the 1920s to the 1940s, the theme of a bird in flight preoccupied Brancusi. He concentrated on the animal’s movement, rather than their physical attributes. In Bird in Space, the sculptor eliminated wings and feathers, elongated the swell of the body, and reduced the head and beak to a slanted oval plane. Balanced on a slender conical footing, the figure’s upward thrust appears unfettered. This sculpture is part of a series that includes seven marble sculptures and nine bronze casts.”
While the difficulties in teaching students not only to be good writers, but also to enjoy writing are easy to complain about, they are not immediately changeable. Consequently, as a teacher of young writers, one must find a way to make the system work. Ross Borden found a way with me, and I feel I have found a way with many of my students, but not all of them. So I continue to read, and I continue to write, and I continue to teach, though I also continue to struggle with the many problems surrounding the field.
I have always been an artistic person, and I saw writing as another way to express myself artistically. Many students my age hated to write but I never saw it as a burden. I carried that passion throughout high school and continue to enjoy it in college. My junior and senior English teacher, Mrs. McGhee, had the biggest impact of my writing skills. She was always a tough grader and always made sure to elaborate on our mistakes. She is the reason I became such a strong writer. She and Anne Lamott have similar personalities. Lamott states, “It’s not like you don’t have a choice, because you do- you can either type or kill yourself.” Mrs. McGhee hated excuses. She expected her students to complete the tasks that were given to them, but, of course, high school students always complained and probably rather kill themselves than write a paper. She constantly motivated her students to work hard and complete their work to the best of their abilities. I cannot thank her enough for the impact she has had on my academic
The large ground finches have a higher curve while the medium ground finches have a smaller head and a tiny beak. The place in which the finches live is what changes their appearances and also the weather helps decide the appearance of these finches.
The most meaningful thing I picked up form this class was that writing does not come from inspiration. Learning this really helped me grow as a writer, I no longer feel the pressure to come up with an inspirational piece and expect it to be golden. Also this tied in with how no writing is perfect in its first draft. I always felt my writing had to be perfect my first attempt, just as major authors or professors did. However as I learned that it talks many “shitty first drafts” to create a good piece of writing, and also then no peace of writing is ever complete.
Birds have direct and indirect economic and cultural values for people. Birds are important for a lot of reasons. Birds provide us food, medicine, fertilizers and also bring about pollinations. They are important because they are a part of the food chain. Birds are also important because they help spread seeds around and thus help with the planting process. Birds also perform vital ecological role, besides their economical role. They are critical links within the fast food chains and webs that exist in the ecosystem. The economic importance of birds can be studied into two parts – A) Beneficial effect B) Harmful effect.
