On February 26, 1981, Barry Lee Loukaitis was born to Terry Loukaitis and Joann Phillips. He was their only child and suffering from clinical depression as well as hyperactivity. Clinical depression ran in both sides of the family going back four generations on the Phillips side and three generations on the Loukaitis side. Barry had a fascination for violent entertainment, enjoying a particularly violent film, “Natural Born Killers”. Growing up Barry was controlled by Joann, this created a void between himself and his father. Barry identified with his mom more than his father with reports stating he hated his father. It has been proven that children that witness and endure abuse at home, are more likely to repeat the cycle of abuse. They act in a likeness of their parents, they mimic what they do. “Children see how their parents display emotions and interact with other people, and they imitate what they see their parents do to regulate emotions.” ** Barry witnessed his mother become distant and suicidal following the separation from her husband.
