There is brutality in Virginian Luxuries relationship of power displayed in the document of Virginian luxuries. A cartoon is used to show the mistreatment of people by others in case where a rod is raised up to beat another person. The picture demonstrates how people were handled by others who were in power.
Alexis de Tocqueville Description of the three races in America author claims that there are three races in America namely the Whites, Negros, and the Indians. These groups of people are antagonistic to each other. Tocqueville’s distinction between the races was on Education and the way of ruling. They were the main features which brought antagonism between these communities of the United States of America. Quality education was provided to the whites, while the Negros and the Indians were isolated. The whites i.e. the Europeans were viewed to be superior to the other two races while the Negros and Indian occupy the smaller and poorer part of the country. The Negros are usually the people from Africa, who migrated to America and they were enslaved immediately they were born. Upon the background of the Negroes, they prefer slavery to independence (Johnson 239).
Tocqueville argues that the Negro is struggling to fix themselves in the culture of the Europeans while the Indians yearn for freedom from slavery. Through the effort of the Negros to ingratiate their cultures in the way Americans lived, they made themselves exposed to mistreatment by the Europeans. Upon my way of thinking, the Negros were subjected to abuse by the whites due to lack of confidence in their culture.

Liberty and slavery were the key features of the Civil war. The war emerged with need for bringing slave trade to an end. The 1860 elections brought about a lot of questions about slave trade since the Democrats supported slave trade while the Republicans rejected the deal. The emancipation proclamation and the 13th Amendments contributed to the end of slavery as well as promoting liberty among the people who were enslaved. Other ways of promoting freedom and abolishment of slavery involved placement of federal troops in the south of the country to make sure that Africans released from slavery were not enslaved again.
