In the book “Aggression a social learning analysis”, Albert Bandura main argument is that aggression is a behavior that is performed from violent forms to gain control over people by forcing them to change and gain reinforcement. Aggression can be a behavior that was learned at an early age by observing the people around us can influence us to commit the same actions. However, it can affect a person physiological because they are taught that the action is appropriate to commit. For example, a young boy learned that is ok to talk back to the mother because he witnessed his dad confronting his mother. This can affect the young boy at an early age because he would learn that is ok to mistreat a women. Bandura(1973), suggests that “New behaviors are acquired and existing patterns are modified entails modeling and vicarious proceses.It is evident form informal observation that humans behavior is to large extent socially transmitted, either deliberately, through behavioral examples provided by influential models” (68). One assumption about human behaviour from the psychodynamic perspective is that all behaviour including aggression is determined by our genes. The results showed the exposure to violent model did increase the amount of aggression shown by the children, however, the children that viewed the model on film, whether it be human or fantasy it made no difference to the levels of aggression showed by the children. Behavior and social learning are two theories that are inherently intertwined. Behavior to some extent is taught for social reasons, and social learning can very much shape and create behaviors. While behavior is something intentionally taught, social learning can teach and reinforce many unintentional behaviors, such as dishonesty or aggression. In order to adequately discuss these two interrelated topics, theory exploration is in order.
Why are we as aggressive and can we develop a way to reduce our ever increasing aggressive behavior? What this research paper is going to cover just might answer that. First we’re going to go over different types of aggression and the differences between them. Next will be the several theories about aggression. This will cover from a biological and genetic point of view to how our diet affects our behaviors in negative ways. We will even look into how our culture has an effect on our aggression levels. Last is what ways can we potentially reduce and manage our angry tendencies as well as control the ever rising aggressive behavior in our society.
