When I began planning my project, I was indecisive on what I wanted to do. I was stuck between a musical composition and a poem. I wanted to draft a song because I love music. Since Raised around all genres of music, music became my getaway. Then I realized I could do both, but more in poetry form. A song is a poem, but it has a variety of materials a poem does not have such as, instruments, melody, and harmony. A song and a poem have differences, but they also have similarities, like style and rhythm. I joined the forms because they are a similar genre of literature; it helped me build a successful piece.
The process of my final product was easier to write a poem, than writing a song and adding instruments, coming up with a hook, and figuring out the key or pitch. It took a day to write my poem and even though it was easier than coming up with a song, I still had a difficult time. I did not know how long I wanted it to be, what would my topic be about, and what type of poem it would be. I started to brainstorm about things women go through on a daily basis such as, abuse, pregnancy, and relationship issues.
I chose to do my poem on abuse in a marriage. In today’s society, women go through a lot in marriage; some women are victims and many survive, but several do not. I wrote a love poem. My love poem is about real events, but I had to add a twist to it. I wanted to make it a mystery and grab the audience’s attention. I wanted to do a freestyle poem because as I did not want the type of poem I was writing rhyme. I felt like I did not have to rhyme to catch the reader or audience’s attention. My poem tells a story about how a marriage went wrong. It was difficult to come up with a title, but as I kept reading my poem aloud, t...

I enjoyed doing this project and I look forward to do similar assignments along the way. This was a fun project for me to do. As soon as I finished my composition, I had the desire to write more. I did not think I would enjoy writing a poem because I thought I could not imagine certain things and write it down. I did not know that I had that abundance of creativity in me. I learned that writing poems on real life events may be disturbing and the writer may become emotional by stepping into that individual 's shoes. I became quite emotional during the process of writing because a woman should not be a victim in a marriage. Researching and planning this poem taught me a lot about the topic I based it on. Composing the entire project and product inspired me to write more poems in the future.
