FW Clip 2 2015
Title: In this clip, it encourages viewers to think about the qualification for being a 'good teacher ', by comparing to characters - Margret and Erin: whether the length of teaching experience that identifies a good teacher, or simply the basic of being a teaching which is loving and caring. This 2 minutes long scene has revealed the opinion of the director, about the qualities and identification of a good teacher. It has been conveyed simply by comparing two different characters, Margret and Erin, in which Margret is an academic based teacher, who cares mostly on student 's grades and manner. Contrastingly, Erin is a liberal, and progressive teachers, who wants to teacher her students about the world, and truly loves her students. For that reason, the two opposite characteristics of Erin and

In Freedom Writers, the white male teacher - Mr. Gelford, can be seen as the representation of the general teachers. In the scene (00:23), the long shot of Erin and Mr. Gelford, sitting on the sofa, shows the distance between them, which is a metaphor suggesting the difference and conflict between Erin and other teachers. Additionally, the clothing in the plot also shows a significant difference between Erin and other teachers. In this scene, other teachers including Mr. Gelford, and Margret, are wear black, grey, or other darker colours. However, Erin is wearing a striking red suit, which differ her and other people. In this case, 'red ' represents 'warning ', 'danger ', which remind the viewers about the beginning of the film, when Erin has wore the same outfit to the school for interview. Therefore, the red in the beginning of the film has foreshadowed, 'warned ' the school, and the audience that Erin is going to change something. And the 'red ' in this scene suggests that the 'danger ' that Margret has worried about has
Great teaching requires sacrifice and consistently puts the development of the child first Esquith, after teaching for over 30 years and writing several award winning books, exemplifies this child centered philosophy of teaching. His purpose is to share his dedicated and selfless approach to teaching with teachers, in the hope that they too, will be inspired ‘to teach like their hair is on fire.’ He believes that commitment to each individual student is essential. As a role model, he stresses the importance of being dependable and providing an atmosphere that is safe and that promotes the love of learning. He focusses on values and teaching his students to respect themselves and others, to be kind and to always work hard (Esquith, 2007). With Esquith’s simple motto of, “be nice, work hard and there are no shortcuts, in the classroom” (Esquith,2007), it is easy to see why his students are so happy and successful.
The film from class that I most identified with was “The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie.” Of all the films we have watched so far, this film and the readings that accompanied it were the most interesting and applicable to my emergence as a new teacher. I was most excited to watch the film because I love Maggie Smith and had never heard of this film. As I began to watch, I became entranced by her performance and by attempting to discover the message the film is attempting to portray. After watching and reading the associated articles, I discovered that the primary point of this film is to express how significantly teachers can influence their students, and that this influence is not always appropriate. Reading the article, “Teachers as Products of Their Schooling: Disrupting Gendered Positions” (Sanford, 2002) I synthesized this theory with literature and developed a specific conclusion. While it may be appropriate in some educational situations for teachers to express their viewpoints to their pupils, it is more important to put aside our own agenda to develop our students’ own viewpoints and opinions.
Whittaker in his novel, What Great Teachers Do Differently pose teachers with different concepts within the education field, touching on some “not-talked” about concepts, and sheds light on ones own performance, and effectiveness as a classroom teacher. On page 95, Whitaker states, “If we seek input from our most capable students and colleagues, we are much more likely to make the right choices”. Now looking at that from just a first line perspective one may question how this would effect the individual student voices and faculty. If one is to look deeper and really think about what he is saying, then one can realize how this is justified by the mere fact that it is the nature of both students and teachers to make decisions on what is best
There are many skills and attributes needed to make an outstanding teacher. Among them are content knowledge, classroom management, leadership, and compassion.
The first scene already displays a fault in a teacher’s character: pressure to succeed due to comparison. The headmaster of the school welcomes a new student and says to him, “You have some big shoes to fit. Your brothers were one of the finest”- a valedictorian and National Merit Scholar. The comparison of the success of the older to younger
Everyone knows that when it comes to making a difference in a child’s academic and life achievements, their teachers play a large role. A teacher’s ability to relate to their students, and teach them to achieve both socially and academically contributes to how effective they are. What does it mean to be an effective teacher? Overall there seems to be an emphasis on teacher effectiveness related to how well their students are performing on standardized testing. As teachers we know there is more to being an effective teacher then just teaching our students based on tests. This paper will identify different definitions of an effective teacher along with how to assess teachers on being effective.
Interviewing two teachers on their opinions regarding the positive and negative aspects of a teaching role allowed me to get an understanding of their perspective. One of the teachers whom I interviewed was Mr. Gonzales a Spanish teacher for nine years. He first served the U.S. Army until he retired and decided to become a teacher. Although, he knew that teachers are not paid enough and are taken for granted, he only cared about making a difference in a child’s life. Mr. Gonzales states that his goals as an educator is to, “reach all my students no matter their diversity, ethnicity, and learning style in order to help them succeed” (H. Gonzalez, personal communication, October 26, 2015).
It is hard to define precisely which characteristics or attributes are required for a teacher to be considered highly-qualified. There are many schools of thought concerning which teaching styles and techniques are the “best” or the most effective. There have been contradictory results gathered from studies meant to determine the attributes of teachers that translate into the most effective classroom performances (Anthony, Goldhaber, 2003).
There are many things which make a teacher great and they all can`t be defined. However i`ve always considered several of them essential. In my opinion a good teacher is someonewho first of all creates interest in studying, doesn`t underestimate the children, has equal expectations of siccess from everyone and last but not least likes his job.
Characteristics of effective teachers are clarity and organization, warmth and enthusiasm. When teachers are organize the classroom runs a lot smoother. Teachers who have enthusiasm found the students have achievement gains and students tend to enjoy school. Pedagogical content knowledge is when teachers combined academic content with know how to teach the content that matches instruction to student differences. Expert teachers know the academic subjects they teach, general teaching strategies, the curriculum materials and programs appropriate for their subject and grade level, subject-specific knowledge for teaching, the characteristics and cultural backgrounds of learners and goals and purposes of teaching. These allow teachers to be successful
Teacher evaluation can be divided into two steps. First step is documenting the quality of teacher performance, while the second step is helping teacher to improve herhis performance in teaching (ref). Teacher evaluations seem can be beneficial for both the teacher and the evaluator(ref). Thus, the evaluators' role is to make the evaluation process a meaningful experience through giving useful feedback on classroom needs and the opportunity to learn new teaching techniques in order to make changes in the classroom. This paper includes a description of an observation instrument that I have used to write a reflective report on two teachers' classrooms management , and professional development plan.
One good quality a teacher should have is, respect for the students. Each person’s ideas and opinions should be valued and not judged. They should be able to express themselves without feeling insecure. Another good quality is, having high expectations for your students. Each student should be encouraged to do their best and achieve goals that they may have never met before. Another good quality is, I believe a teacher should have is good communication skills. They should keep not only the students informed on what is going on in the class, they should definitely keep the parents informed as well. Teachers need to know how to communicate with all their students because some are at different levels than others.
Knowledge of Content: My high school Algebra teacher was very knowledgeable of her content area. She could explain the rules and methods of Algebra with ease. She also knew how to make it easier for her students to understand.
When I arrived into this school building, I signed in the front office. Teacher-2 received to show her classroom for observation. While I was walking and since it is Christmas season I noticed many decorations on the walls, roofs and on the bulletin boards. The whole school is looking just like a decorated Christmas tree. I was amazed and tried to look some of the bulletin boards ideas. These bulletin boards dragged my attention and I was almost stuck looking them. I was taken to a classroom where I noticed the teacher is waiting for her students who are in the library. After a while the teacher stood up and walked near to her door to receive her students. I pulled a chair into the corner of the class, to make sure not to distract the students (as I am stranger to these kids). I noticed students who
Along these two weeks we have been prompt to make a recall to our own way of learning and why we became a teacher: Was it because coincidence, due to life circumstances, maybe because family tradition, was it a conscious decision or because someone influenced us? Whatever the answer is, we have to face reality and be conscious that being a teacher does not only means to teach a lesson and asses students learning. It requires playing the different roles a teacher must perform whenever is needed and required by our learners, identify our pupils needs and preferences, respecting their integrity and individuality but influencing and motivating them to improve themselves and become independent.
