Killing and letting die. Let’s say you are walking along with one of your childhood friends both of you are on your way from school. You decide to take a shortcut over the train tracks. A train starts to come your way, luckily you make it to the other side before the train comes, but you watch on as your friend struggles to get her foot loose. She can’t get her foot out in time before the train comes, she dies from the impact of the hit. Take the same scenario, but this time you physically push your friend onto the train tracks and watch as she falls to her death. Cases that involve patients that are near death’s door and are experiencing an excruciating amount of pain. Unlike the claims presented in Camosy’s article, Euthanasia is not a tool physicians use to relieve loved ones of the burden of taking care of a terminally ill patient. According to Phillip Nitschke Euthanasia is a great option to have, it brings peace to patients when the hope of improving is long gone and the long road of pain has just begun. In his article titled, Hope you never need it, but be glad the option is there, he states, “A peaceful death is everybody’s right and unless modern medicine has a cure for many of the terminal illnesses that confront individuals, the current situation is that they will keep suffering” (Nitschke). He also believes that Euthanasia is a much better alternative to rotten away slowly and in pain. He states, “The process that terminally ill patient’s body go through during their finals days is something that no human being should have to endure” (Nitschke). According to journalist Erwin Chemerinsky, Euthanasia is not only a great option, but it is a patient’s right. In his article titled, Recognize the Right to Die with Dignity he states, “A right to physician assisted suicide is a fundamental aspect of a person 's constitutionally protected liberty” (Chemerinsky). Sound mind individuals have the right to make such a decision regarding their own life, and they are the only individuals that are allowed to make that decision. Journalist Chemerinsky also mentions the fact that Euthanasia not only helps the patient, but also the family members of the patient. The patient’s family can rest knowing that their loved one isn’t suffering each day wishing that the pain would stop.
