Is college really worth it?
There has been and will always will be the debate on college. Is college worth it? Do I have to go to college? Should I go to college? College is just one option of schooling out of many that people don't realize. College seems to be the way to go, but college probably isn't worth it for you because you will have tens of thousands of dollars in debt, lack in experience, and there are many other options for a career pathway than college.
Unless you get countless amounts of scholarships or a full ride for that matter, which probably is not the case, you will be stuck with some student loan debt. There is the other side to this argument too. We can't forget that. College is good, college is great. Most of the facts that lean toward “college is good, college is great” is that they make more money. It is true that on average, college graduates earn 66% more than just high school graduates. However, one thing you have to remember is that not everyone is average. Just like how not everyone will get scholarships, not everyone will make the same amount of money. Also, not everyone, it seems, will use their degrees. There is a joke that goes, “pick a major in a field that you love and you'll never work a day in your life……….because that field probably isn't hiring.” There is a reason jokes like these exist, no one would tell them if they weren’t somewhat true or relatable. In 2013 a study came out that showed that 31% of college educated Americans who were 35 and older never worked in their field of study. That is one third and keep in mind that that doesn't mean the other two thirds got amazing careers and earn crazy amount of money. A survey in 2010 showed that only 27% of college graduates had a job closely related to their major. An article titled “The five ways education pays” talks about the benefits of college. One of the points in this was that children are 27% more likely to be read to if their parent graduated with a bachelors, while these claims are backed up by real surveys, lets be honest, does that really depend on education, or the type of person you
