I am a very independent person who likes her space and can be very stubborn at times. When I know I have plans I usually stick to them even when I am not feeling up to them. I can easily but on a fake smile and pretend I am having fun, when in reality I am really tired and just want to be at home. This here is an example of emotion work that I often face. I will force myself to have a good time at a party, even when I am not feeling up to it. There is not just one time this has happened to me, there are multiple times when this example of emotion work has applied to me. The feeling rules of this situation is that when you are out socializing at a party or get together with friends or family you should be having fun and not being that one sitting …show more content…
Guilt is when we feel guilty when we have done something that we shouldn’t have done. This is a social emotion because we gain that guilt from evaluation from the environment around us. I would see guilt as a negative emotion because it could lower your self-esteem or self-perception of yourself when society has gained this image of something you have done when you should not have. The next social emotion is shame. Shame is the feeling of being a bad person rather than just doing something wrong. Shame is a social emotion because it can show society the bad characteristics the person might display. Along with guilt is see this as a negative emotion. Third is empathy, which is putting you own self in someone else’s place. This allows others to think about others rather than just themselves. I think this is more of a positive emotion because it allows you to explore how others are feeling. The fourth social emotion is jealousy. It is easy to say that jealousy is a negative emotion. It is when we have a negative reaction to when something good happens to someone else. It is a social emotion because it usually involves more than one person. Embarrassment is the fifth social emotions, which is an uncomfortable feeling of exposure. It is a social emotion because we often feel embarrassed when others are embarrassed. Last of the social emotions is love. Love is a positive emotion, …show more content…
It explains how his new plan is to go after Hilary Clinton, since he was not as successful as she was in the democratic debate. There is a list of successful things that Sanders had done compared to Clinton, so the focus he is more on what he is going to do rather than his failures. The second article is right next to the Sanders article which talks about Donald Trump being the most electable. This piece talks about some successful things that Trump has done and some failures in some of the speeches he has given. The third article I chose was about the early release of drug felons. This piece seems to be a negative one as they talk about specific people and the crimes they have committed. There is nothing successful being discussed here. The first two pieces that I had chosen were both about politicians in the presidential running; they are Caucasian, male, and older adults. Then the third article is about drug felons and the picture they have chosen for this article is of a woman. It talks mostly about men in their mid forties. So I do think the occupation, age, and gender have a big role on who the piece is
There is one human emotion that can paralyse us, lead us to lie both to ourselves and others, to take action that we don't like, and to cripple any rational thought processes. It is self perpetuating if allowed to get out of control. Its side effects are either anger, aggressiveness or fear and reclusiveness. Its symptoms are irrational behaviour, lying, anguish, lack of self-esteem, and in extreme cases, thoughts of suicide. It is guilt. In The Fifth Business, by Robertson Davies, guilt is a reoccurring theme throughout the novel and is a major force in one’s life. Davies demonstrates this by having one character feeling guilt while another who does not.
...roblem that exist in the theory of emotional labour is the emotional dissonance that exists for the employee and the impact this has on them and on their job satisfaction. Emotional dissonance is defined as being the “the feeling of unease that occurs when someone evaluates an emotional experience as a threat to his or her identity” (Janz & Timmers 2002). The constant manipulation of emotion undertaken by employees is required due to the fact that their jobs require them to always be polite and courteous to the customers, regardless to how the consumer might be treating the employee. This dissonance is said to cause negative effects on the employees; namely excessive stress related ailments. Mann, from the University of Salford, has suggested that constantly having to manage your emotions in such a way could lead to work stress (Mann, 2004).
All of our emotions play a big role in our lives. Even though it does not feel like it at the moment, negative feelings can be a good thing. If we never become sad, angry, or scared we would not be able to appreciate the true value of happiness, we would only focus on ourselves and happiness, and we would become less alert to threats and dangerous situations around us.
In this quote written by Miriam Adeney, the author talks about how the feeling of homeliness is hard to achieve once a person travels and gets to meet new people; since that person has started building relationships with them, whether as a friend, a family member, a significant other, or someone who has meaning to their life. When the bonds are created with these new people, the emotion love is starting to develop. As well as a homely feeling is created within these tight bonds causing emotions to override the ability for one to reason. This quote allows the reader to connect with the meaning that the author is trying to portray by using humanly emotions to tie the audience in.
Guilt is a self-conscious emotion that a person feels after carrying out a wrong type of behavior. The emotion is felt after executing a wrongdoing, “It provides a painful consequence for actions that would weaken the groups that you belong to” (Markman sec. 1). The normal reaction
Brave New World is a magnificent piece of literature that has surpassed all expectations that are valued in a book. Huxley’s novel is a book to praise due to its ruminating themes, evocative characters, and intellectually stimulating overall feel of the novel.
Guilt acts as one of the strongest and most prominent emotions humans feel throughout their lives. Guilt can cause people to help others, push through obstacles, or make friends. Guilt, however, may not stop one from doing amoral actions. This can happen as a result of a perceived bonus outweighing the negative feeling one may experience from completing the action, or a heat of the moment action, where one may not fully understand the consequences of their actions.

Should we let our emotions control us? Should we base our decisions on how we are feeling at a specific time? Perhaps emotion shouldn’t factor at all into our decisions. Some of the characters we have studied exhibit both sides of this question. Luther and Alice from the show Luther fall on opposite sides of the spectrum while Billy Budd takes a hybrid approach.
Emotional Labor (EL) is defined “as managing emotions through surface or deep acting by following organizational display rules in return for a wage.” (Hochschild 1983). Task performance and strategy is increased through EL and it has impact on administration of service.
Emotions play an essential role in our everyday lives and the majority of individuals are not consciously aware about it. Based on how someone’s emotions are for that day, depends on what kind of day that person will have. In essence, the person’s day is impacted by their emotions. The question whether or not a person can control their emotions voluntarily varies from person to person. In some cases, people are able to handle their emotions depending on the situation they're in. For instance, a person cannot lash out on another person because it is not socially acceptable. However, some people do and let their emotions get the better of them. The controlling of one’s emotion is known as emotional regulation. Emotional regulation is the ability
As a child, I was constantly told how a boy is not a real boy if he cries or shows excessive emotion. It is considered good to cry if you are a girl because it helps in releasing your emotions. This led to the result of me crying over almost everything, and my brother storing his anger in a non beneficial manner. It is a common belief in society that women are more emotional than men. This is because young children are influenced by the stereotyping present in everyday life and forms such as movies. A study was shown to prove that preschool students always aligned anger with boys, and fear and sadness with girls. (Brody 370) By only allowing women to show emotion, puts a shadow of frailness upon women which allows men to believe that they are
Emotion is a constant state of being. Happiness, sadness, joy, and despair are an emotional roller coaster that we may want to get off, but as we all know life doesn 't allow for us to get off when we want to. We fight our emotions every day when dealing with an array of issues that stems from work, life, and family. Being able to manage that driving force of change can be challenging. Last night, a Cousin of mines was full of emotions, when her husband took out the trash at my house. Her response was, “he does not take the trash out at our house, he makes our son take out the trash”. Emotions help keep us centered and balance by putting us in check, mastering strategies, and emotional state.
Many theorist have researched the concept of emotional labour, and although there were many similarities, there were distinctive differences. In terms of similarities, Hochschild (1983), Ashforth and Humprey (1993), Morris and Feldman (1996) concluded that emotional labour has an impact on the quality of life of the employee. By all studies, they have recognized that each sector of the workforce use different techniques in reference to emotional labour. For example, an individual that works at a children’s play centre are expected to feel and act happy and cheerful,...
From the moment they wake up, people experience events that trigger certain emotions. How people react to these events may depend on that person feels during that event. In terms of whether our emotions control us or we control our emotions, I believe that to some extent emotions control us. Because we cannot change how we feel in response to certain stimulus, emotions control us. However, people have some control over whether or not they act on their emotions. Emotions at that given moment can influence our actions. If people can control their reactions, then to some degree we are controlling our emotions. However, the prompts raises several important questions. How can one’s emotions alter other ways of knowing such as perception or reason?
