Walt Disney World, is known as the place where dreams come true. There, guests can engulf into the world of Disney by visiting places like Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Hollywood Studios, Animal Kingdom and more. Disney World is important to me because it is the place where I feel as if my dreams can come true and anything can happen. To truly understand what makes it so popular I had to learn about its creator and what it took for him to make a place as magical as Walt Disney World itself.
The mastermind behind Walt Disney World is no other than Walter Disney. Walt Disney was born on December 5, 1901 in Chicago, Illinois. He grew up interested in film and art and wanted to pursue a career in film and art. Walt started off working with a small company now commonly known as “Warner Bros.” His first cartoon was a rabbit named “Oswald the Lucky Rabbit.” Walt then sold the rights of Oswald to the company and set out on his own. Oswald was then renamed Bugs Bunny!
After a ton of hard work and dedication Walt created a company called “Walt Disney Studios.” November 18, 1928 Walt created Mickey and Minnie Mouse. Then on December 21, 1937 he created Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, the first Disney Princess ever made. This film helped to sky-rocket his business. Walt the made Disney classics such as Pinocchio, Dumbo, and Bambi but this was just the beginning. In 1955 he opened Disneyland, an amusement park where guests can step into the world of Disney. Walt always stood at the exit and wished guests a farewell. No one would ever leave the park before closing time. One night, a family was leaving before closing times. In a year over 700 million people visit Walt Disney World and there are still 20,000 acres of land that is undeveloped leaving Walt Disney World room to grow. Walt Disney World is so popular because it is constantly evolving with new attractions and high-tech technology such as Magic Bands, devices that serve as your room key and park ticket. Also Disney World stays the same still keeping the idea that Walt Disney had for Walt Disney World. It’s a place engulfed in family fun and everything Disney.
Walt Disney was born in 1890 to a woman named Seora Isabelle Zamora. His father, Elias, met Isabelle in California that same year and the two carried on an affair that ended with the birth of Walt. Later, Elias brought the two back to Chicago, Illinois where Isabelle became a housekeeper for the Disney family. Walt was assimilated into the Disney household and treated as the biological son of Elias and Flora Disney. Isabelle was with the family for years, being passed on from the Elias and Flora household to the Walt and Lillian family years later (Eliot 152-157).

Although born in the city, Walt grew in the farm counties of Marceline in Missouri with four older brothers and a young sister. As a young child, Walt Disney was already interested in drawing cartoons. In 1927 Walt created Oswald the Lucky Rabbit. Disney did the things no one else would do. He took the old stories from Europe, created his own versions that he thought were better, and created some of his films from them. Disney was able to create a fantasy world for both children and adults. Disneyland allowed people to immerse themselves in the world of their favorite cartoons and Disney movies instead of just viewing them on the big screen. Disney based his Disneyland’s “Main Street USA” from the streets of small-town America, most buildings from downtown Marceline, Missouri. He did research for his park design there in 1946. Before his death, on December 15th, 1966, from lung cancer, Disney visited Marceline, Missouri several more times and never forgot the small town that influenced so much of his astonishing works. Disney’s theme parks created a whole new outlook for creativity and new building technology like audio-animatronics, which eventually brought his mechanical characters to life. Ever since Mickey Mouse was created in 1928, Disney has been at the forefront of the cartoon world. Every youngster has a favorite Disney character or movie. Over the years they have created some of the best movies of all time. However, Walt Disney hasn’t always been successful. He survived bankruptcy in 1922 and had to rethink how he was going to approach his life. I think it is safe to say the approach he took was the right one. One of his first productions was an animated short film Alice’s Wonderland, which turned into what we know as Alice in Wonderland. Mr. Disney’s first attempt at a feature-length animated film debuted in 1937 after three years of production. His masterpiece of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs is one of his most awarded movies. Following World War II Disney Production was in a substantial amount of debt. They needed to come out with a new movie that would win over the public of America. They came out with just the right movie, Cinderella, in 1950. This was their biggest hit since Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs some 15 years ago. The Walt Disney Company is the largest entertainment company in the world in terms of revenue. It was founded on October 16, 1923 by Walt Disney and his brother, Roy O. Disney. They started the company, The Disney Brothers Cartoon Studio, where they became the leader in the American animation industry and later working in live action film production, television and their world famous theme parks. Through different acquisitions, they have diversified and now do business in theater, radio, publishing, online media, music and own several television channels (Disney History Institute).
Walt Disney was born on December 5, 1901 in Chicago, Illinois. His parents, Elias and Flora Disney, gave him the name Walter Elias Disney. Walt was one of 5 children, four boys and one girl. In 1906, his family packed up and moved to a farm in Marceline, Missouri. By this time, Walt discovered that he was very interested in art and drawing. “More things of importance happened to me in Marceline than have happened since – or are likely to in the future.” (Disney, 7) Later on, the Disney family had to move to Kansas City because Walt's father, Elias, could no longer take care of his farm when he became very ill. Elias owned a newspaper company to make money for his family and had Walt and Roy, one of his other sons deliver the papers. In 1910, Walt's family once again packed up and moved to Chicago. Walter did not want to move with his family because he wanted to finish school, so he stayed behind and worked for his brother Herb through the summer. In fall, he moved back with his family and enrolled at McKinley High School. Walt did have an interest in his classes, but found a love for drawing cartoons which were featured in his school's newspaper.
