Have you ever imagined achieving all your dreams? Jay Z’s music represents the rap and hip-hop genre of music. Even though achieving your goals is hard, It is very rewarding. As you can see in Jay Z’s music along with other artists, they share their life experiences that abled them to create music we all know and love. Jay Z’s life experiences include when his father left the house, when Jay Z was about 11 years old and he never came back. He raps about his father in the song “Where Have You Been.” Another event that happened in his life that affects his music, was when Jay Z lived in London in 1989. While he lived there he recorded with Monie Love, and soaked in culture. Something that is unique about Jay Z is that he writes all his lyrics …show more content…
In the song “I Get Up” by J.Cole for example. In the chorus of this song it says “And where I go the wind blow, momma your son gon’ find his way, And if I gotta crawl I’ma make it to the end though” (J.Cole Get Up). This line refers to J.Cole following his dreams and striving for success. Another artists is Kendrick Lamar. In his song “Humble,” he says “I can buy you the world with my pay stub” (Kendrick Lamar Humble). The song title is humble because it talks about staying humble after making it big. Last but not least is Kanye West who has tons of songs about making it big. The most profound is “Last Call.” In this song Kanye West raps “Now I could let these dream killers kill my self-esteem, or use my arrogance as the steam to power my dreams”(Kanye West Last Call). Kanye talks about how nobody at first wanted to sign him. Then towards the end of the song he raps one of my favorite lines “ Your boy back on his hustle, you know what I’ve been up to, killin ya’ll others on that lyrical game, mayonnaise- colored Benz, I push miracle whip” (Kanye West Last Call). In these lines kayne talks about making it big and having the cars and money. In all these songs they refer to dreams, that turned into reality through hard work and hardships. In summary Jay Z, Kendrick Lamar, and Kanye West all achieved their goals through hard work. It wasn’t easy for any of them, but now they are living the benefits of working hard. Each artist has proved this through their song lyrics. So even though achieving your goals is hard to attain, It is very
Kanye Omari West, rapper, producer, professional celebrity, and with an ego to match, has forced himself into the limelight of the music industry. Kanye West has made a lasting impression on all of those around him, whether it be a good one or bad. With seven full length albums, a multimillion record label company, and a successful fashion business all under his belt, it’s fair to say that Kanye has done his fair share of creating. With over 20 Grammy’s and 3 of his albums ending up on the Rolling stones “500 greatest albums of all time”. He has continuously created, entertained, and spoken his mind for years. Jay-Z was born Shawn Corey Carter on December 4, 1969. He grew up in the infamous Marcy projects in Brooklyn with a sister and a brother. You would think that just growing up on the Marcy projects would be hard enough on a kid, but at the age of twelve, Shawn’s parents got a divorce. Shawn then attended the Brooklyn High school with two of today’s better known rappers, Biggie Smalls and Busta Rhymes.
Rap music has given me personally something to look up to. Not a role model but hope of continuing my dreams because rappers successfully made it. “For what’s money without happiness, or hard times without the people you love” is from a song called “Love Yourz” by J. Cole. He clearly understands how there is “beauty in the struggle and ugliness in the success” because he’s lived that life. Other songs such as “2Face” or “The Autograph” were instantly relatable to me because he has been through several struggles from the beginning of his childhood. Cole’s father left when he was six leaving his mother and younger brother alone. Cole became “the man of the house” but becoming a rapper is not as easy as it seems. Cole’s messages in these two songs are relative because I too, have had several issues with my mother and father creating a sense of lonesome. Hearing music like Coles helped me overcome my
He may just seem like another rapper to you but if you actually listen to his lyrics you can see he’s not like any rapper out there. His name is Kanye West and he was born in Chicago Illinois. He grew up in the “ghetto” and learned to appreciate life. He didn’t learn to really, truly appreciate life until October of 2002. Driving back to his hotel late one night after a recording session, the new-coming rap/hip-hop artist was involved in a devastating, near fatal car accident. The crash left him with a broken jaw in three places and an appreciation for life. Just weeks after being released from the hospital he recorded his first major hit, “Through the Wire,” with his mouth still wired shut. He records every song like its going to be his last song and that makes every song better than the last. He’s not only a rap artist but also a producer. He has been responsible for being behind songs like Jay-Z’s Izzo, Girls, Girls, Girls, The Takeover, and 03 Bonnie and Clyde.
Hip-Hop’s criticism of George W. Bush is a good example of hip-hop’s reflection of Black public opinion. The Republican candidate who already had a low approval rating of 57% amongst African-Americans received an even lower approval rating after his lackluster efforts to support Louisiana after Hurricane Katrina in 2005 (Jones, 2003; Cillizza & Sullivan 2013).
Love & Hip Hop is an American Reality Show series on VH1. The series debuted on March 14, 2011. Mona Scott-Young is the CEO of multi-media entertainment company Monami Entertainment which is home of the popular show. In addition to “Love & Hop Hop,” the film and television division of Monami Entertainment has produced the spin-off “Chrissy & Mr. Jones” and “The Gossip Game,” both on VH1. All of these shows have a common theme. They are all drama filled reality shows based on the chronicles of several men and women with unpredictable love lives, who are involved in Hip Hop. Though found entertaining by many, these shows are all geared to target the young urban demographic and has stirred up controversy for several reasons when viewed by the wrong audience. The main female characters of the show this previous season are Yandy Smith, Erica Mena, Tara and Tahiry. All four of these women lead separate story lines that revolve around the four leading men; Mendecese, Rich Dollas, Peter Gunz, and Joe Budden.
Who is Eminem? People might say that he is the greatest rapper of all time. Some people think that he is inappropriate because he cusses in his music. Now in all of his songs they have a story to it. For most of his songs he talks about his life and how hard it is. In one of Eminem songs he tells a story about his family life and the song is called Mockingbird. A man who becomes a rapper and leaves his family behind but while he’s rapping all he could think about is his family. So how can someone love their family but leaves them so that they could rap. At this point the Mockingbird is about his family structure that created psychological issues.
Drake releases the second song targeting the rapper Meek Mill, July 29th, just four days after releasing his new single, “Charged Up.” The name of the second diss song is called , “Back To Back,” and it refers to this song as drakes second diss track in the same week, as well as winning back to back championships in baseball. The release date of this song was no mistake, because the Phillies and Blue Jays had a championship game that same night (July 29th, 2015). Poetically, the Blue Jays defeated the Phillies, 8-2. The song cover shows Joe Carter, of Drake’s hometown team the Toronto Blue Jays, after he hit the home run which ultimately gave them the championship in the World Series of 1933 against Meek Mill’s hometown team, the Philadelphia
...e important events in Eminem’s life that had a great impact or effect in his successful career. So yeah Eminem had to deal with poverty and many other problems, but showed that you can do anything you want if you are determined and do not give up even if you are in the most messed up situation.
I was twelve when I first heard the name “Kanye West”. He was featured in a song I rather liked at the time called “Forever” and whilst discussing the song with my friend one afternoon I remarked:
Kanye Omari West was born in Atlanta, Georgia on June, 8 1977. His mom and him soon relocated to Chicago, Illinois after his parents divorced. Kanye spent all of his youth life in Chicago. He spent his time during the school year with his mother, who was an English professor, and spent summers with his dad, who was an award-winning photographer then turned church counselor. “I was taught to think on my own growing up, that’s what a lot of black kids don’t get” (Newsmakers 2). During his time in high school he became friends with producer No I.D., who was working with the rapper Common prior to him becoming famous. This is where Kanye got his beginnings in the producing industry. Kanye wen...

“You Was Right” by Lil Uzi Vert is fairly easy to understand lyrically. The essence of the song deals with unfaithfulness in a relationship as well as the aftermath. Lil Uzi Vert spends a large portion of the song admitting his mistakes to his presumed girlfriend in hopes of making things right between them. The song starts off with the hook, which rests upon the premise of how Lil Uzi Vert should have stayed loyal rather than taking another girl home with him. For example, he says, “You was right, I was wrong” (6) in an attempt to console his girlfriend and apologize. Following the hook, the first verse centers on Lil Uzi Vert’s riches due to his success as a rapper. He ties that in to his relationship by expressing how he wants to share his wealth with his girlfriend. At this stage in the song, Lil Uzi Vert is attempting to win his girlfriend back with his money and general success as a rapper. The hook then repeats itself to indicate that the argument between Lil Uzi Vert and his girlfriend is still continuing. The second verse signifies an escalation in their conflict, as he says, “You just locked the door, so I gotta text you” (42). His girlfriend is refusing to even listen
Although hip hop music normally consist of money, violence, drugs, degrading women, and life in the poor inner cities, Drake has still been able to become one of hip hop’s biggest icons even though his lyrical content does not fit the hip hop genre. Drake has stood his ground and has not conformed to the expectations that hip hop has. Even though he has been badly ridiculed Drake has still been able to prove that you do not always have to be a gangster in order to be a rapper. Drake has also proved that there is nothing wrong with being a hip hop rapper who is in touch with his emotions and who is willing to show his
