Yet, making errors and mistakes are commonly done by the second language learners and foreign language learners. Without deep understanding, the students usually tend to see the errors and mistakes similarly. According to Brown (2007), gave the explanation about mistake that all native speakers make mistakes, or have a "performance lapse". He also stated that a mistake refers to a performance error that is either a random guess or a "slip", in that it is a failure to utilize a known system correctly. Brown added that all people make mistakes in both natives and second language situation. Therefore, whether they are native speakers or second language learners, they probably could make mistakes in producing the language. Mistakes occur because the learners know the system but they fail to use it. Meanwhile, errors according to Brown (2007) are the result of one’s systematic

The author revels his attitude towards the subject because he is an English professor and that he is so wide in this educational system to rather judge what a good English looks like or how bad English looks like. The author encourages his audience to respond to his article, as the author mentioned how English language should be used and written, and that the English language is global and for anyone who can state that the English belongs to a certain country or a nation, shall be a false
Strunk and White’s book The Elements of Style is a small, or “little,” as Strunk liked to say, book that covers all of the biggest, most important rules within the English language. Strunk and White broke down the most common stylistic errors and explained clearly and concisely why those errors are wrong and how to fix them. This book, while incredibly short, contains an immeasurable amount of information, ranging from how to use hyphens to the correct ways to use the word nor. The Elements of Style is an incredible guide that can help students, or anyone, really, navigate the world of proper grammar and diction. Information that can completely change how you communicate with the world—change for the better, I mean—is exceedingly valuable information.
At the beginning of the semester I had many issues with my grammatical errors in major assignments due to the fact I did not have the correct writing skills to perfect my grammatical errors in my major assignments and short answer responses. These rules of language were stressed among students, with the hope that a solid grasp of abstract definitions would set them up with the tools needed to avoid errors in usage. But halfway through the 20th Century, research on the value of grammar education began to surface and there was no strong correlation between the teaching of grammar and a student’s ability to avoid usage errors, the once strict education structure was dropped. With traditional techniques abandoned, the vacuum was filled by new approaches. Structural linguistics, based around the importance of the way words form sentences, began to take the place of its predecessor but was then quickly challenged by transformational grammar, a more abstract concept than the prior two. With arguments from the structural and transformational side both pushing that the other was unscientific, the importance of grammar was abandoned. Though schools are beginning to reintroduce grammar in education, it has kept a firm separation between learning grammar and learning
Errors are made when learners of L2 produce incorrect language because they do not know the correct form, while mistakes are made when learners produce incorrect language although they know the correct form (macmillandictionary.com). Learners can correct their own mistakes, but by definition, they can not correct errors. Errors are considered to be partial acquisition of the target language. In fact, errors should be viewed as "the tip of the iceberg" of a dynamic process of foreign language acquisition (brj.asu.edu). Instead of treating the developmental stages in learners' language as errors, it may be better to view these errors as partial acquisition.
Speech errors serve as a window to investigate speech production and arrangement of language elements in the brain. Gary S. Dell and Peter A. Reich (1980) said that one of the best way to find out how a system is constructed is if that system breaks. Speech errors as a linguistic phenomenon has been the topic of many linguistic researches. It can be investigated as an evidence for linguistic change as well. Bussmann and Hadumod (1996) in the Routledge dictionary of language and linguistics defines speech errors as " (Latin: lapsus linguae), is a deviation (conscious or unconscious) from the apparently intended form of an utterance." (449).

Students are becoming mor...

Grammar teaching has an irreplaceable place in English language teaching because of the fact that without teaching grammar learners cannot learn the system of English language; they may not achieve to express their intentions or meaning of the messages in a well-established communicative activity. It has been seen that throughout the history, the attention of grammar teaching has differed from time to time. In the beginnings of the twentieth century, grammar teaching was considered so essential that other aspects of language were ignored as it was thought that it was necessary to know the grammatical rules in order to communicate appropriately.
The place of grammar has beenalso a matter of debatealong the history of second language teaching. Thornburry(2001) believes that grammar debate is the most important issue that has taken the effort and time of the linguists and practitioners. Many attitudes have been revealed within this debate. Some argues that grammar is a main item in teaching English language. This attitude is shown in the Grammar Translation Method. However, some linguists assume that learners of English shouldn't learn grammar. And this attitude is shown in Natural Approach and the Communicative Language Teaching.
A large part of an English teacher’s job deals with helping students find their own voices amidst the many teachings of their parents and peers. A student’s voice can be their values, their interests, and their perspectives of the world in which they live. Their voice can be their critical questioning of the many situations they face, whether in a text, the school cafeteria, or a park after school. It is the job of an English teacher to aid in finding this voice through their writing. It is by putting words and thoughts down on paper that a student can sometimes feel comfortable enough to take risks and find their true voices. Although traditional grammar instruction has long been thought to improve this skill, this is no longer the case. Instead, by providing a classroom environment in which students are immersed in classic literature from many genres including poetry, short stories, and novels, students will learn how to harness grammar for their own purposes of finding their voice in their writing.
It is not uncommon to say that grammar instruction plays an important role in language teaching. Regarding the status and importance of grammar teaching, a variety of opinions have been made. Batstone (1994) states that “language without grammar would be chaotic: countless words without the indispensable guidelines for how they can be ordered and modified” (p. 4). More vividly, Wang (2010) makes two similes. She compares grammar to the frame of a house, which is a decisive factor to ensure the solidness of it. Additionally, she regards grammar as a walking stick, whose function is to help and support students to learn English. Thus, the nature of grammar instruction manifests its own significance as it helps students enhance their overall language proficiency by integrating grammar into other aspects of learning, like listening, speaking, reading and writing.
