Colloidal silver is particles of silver broken down or mixed into liquid. In the early 20th, ,century colloidal silver or as it is more popularly known “silver water” was marketed as a cure for tumors; now in alternative medicine it is referenced as a cure all with healing properties. But, What does this have to do Amy Bloom 's story “Silver Water”? The only times this phrase appears is in the story 's title along with the story 's opening paragraph: “My sister’s voice was like mountain water in a silver pitcher; the clear blue beauty of it cools you and lifts you up beyond your heat, beyond your body.” This description is spiritual in its nature much like with alternative medicines like Silver Water a lot of its healing properties …show more content…

While the family laughs at Rose 's inappropriate behavior Mr.Walker is put off by their actions walking out on them. “ “After fourteen minutes, Mr. Walker decided that our time was up and walked out, leaving us grinning at each other. Rose was still nuts but we 'd all had a little fun”. What Mr. Walker fails to realize is that the family 's laughter is a show of solidarity for Rose; he like the therapist before is just trying to isolate Rose and fix her illness and doesn’t see that it affects all the family. At this point the family also comes to a realization that conventional therapist are not working for them and try someone a bit more unconventional and alternative in Dr.Throne. According to Violet in her first meeting with Dr.Throne proclaims “O frabjous day, it’s Big Nut.” Rose was in heaven” Again it echoes a spiritual vibe or healing vibe; the times with Dr Throne, Violet refers to as “ (a) good five years”. The family believes they 've found their Silver water or cure all in Dr. Throne even when Rose 's illness acts up he is able to subdue her. Throne’s death Roses behavior starts to get worse and worse with the family at a loss for what to do. Like in many situations, illness brings family together, but it also puts a weight on them, in which they want their loved ones to do better but they have no real way to help. In this story it is made ironic in the fact that the father is a psychiatrist and can 't do much to help his daughter. One night though, Rose demands to be put to bed after causing a scene.
