Presidential responsibility requires much focus on both the United States’ economy and the labor force. In order to establish a thriving nation of successful commerce and secure employment opportunities for all Americans, it is important to create policies to ensure that these goals are achieved. Therefore, an essential platform in my presidential race would be the guarantee that although businesses have the right to manufacture their products overseas, a law should limit the ratio between American vs. foreign employees to at least 2:1 in order to improve employment rates in the United States.
One of the major reasons the economy has been suffering in recent years is the fact that employment rates have plummeted. Workers are deemed unqualified for many jobs, and while lower classes struggle to find work, the upper class enjoys extravagant salaries. In order to balance the employment rate between the classes, the United States also must provide higher education in order to better train and qualify more Americans. If there were more skillful workers entering the work force, employment rates would be fulfilled rather than depreciative, thus improving the nation’s economy.
It has become a common business practice to conduct physical labor overseas, because it is much more cost efficient to pay foreigners to do a job that Americans would require more pay for. Most corporations have established a distinct ploy that calls ...
Nick observes, “On week-ends his Rolls Royce became an omnibus, bearing parties to and from the city between nine in the morning and long past midnight, while his station wagon scampered like a brisk yellow bug to meet all trains” (Fitzgerald 39).Gatsby not only hosts massive parties, his vehicles collect his uninvited guests so that they can attend his parties with ease. The majority of the guests do not know Gatsby, yet arrive in droves to participate in the surfeit of pleasure. Gatsby believes hosting massive numbers of people will increase his chance of finding someone who can reconnect him to Daisy. As well, his strategy is to have the story of his excess get back to Daisy so she will be impressed with his material wealth. Symbolically, the instruments that provide a reconnection to Daisy are Gatsby’s flamboyant automobiles. Gatsby 's cars represent his need for attention and his lack of a true identity beyond materialism. These failures lead to his eventual
For advocates of global business, the hope is that outsourcing will help lift the United State’s economic growth and development by lowering the input cost of services (i.e. labor and materials) and by opening new markets abroad. Mainstream economists believe that outsourcing will have ...
Opposed to widespread belief of outsourcing threatening the labor of United States economy it has been seen that businesses have been able to extract a multitude of benefits through the outsourcing which has in turn created a number of employment opportunities along with it. When the stock market plummeted; companies began to discharge distress signals and corporations commenced labor cutbacks, as a result of which unemployment began to increase greatly. In times when the recession was reaching its peak, the only alternative was to look for cheap labor and ou...
This report is extremely credible and qualified, as it was written by an author who is well-versed on the topic. The author was also the Assistant Secretary of the Treasury in the Reagan administration, making him even more authentic source. Throughout the article, the author discusses and examines the words of two other authors, Ron and Anil Hira, who are experts on the subject of American Outsourcing. These authors are also very credible; one is a professor at the Rochester Institute of Technology, and the other is a professor at Simon Fraser University. Additionally, the author refers to many case studies that were taken at different universities in order to justify his claims on why American Outsourcing is bad. The intended audience is
The exporting of American jobs is an issue that is important and will become increasingly so as more and more white collar jobs are shipped overseas. American companies in the past few decades have been sending American jobs overseas paying residents of other countries pennies on the dollar what they had paid American workers to do. This saves the companies millions of dollars on labor costs but costs Americans precious jobs.
In order to break through the status quo of poverty for generations, there needs to be more efficiency on education. In our current society, establishments would rather hire someone who well qualified with college degree rather than just a high school education. For our modern day survival we need education because it will give up opportunities and help we need to become successful. The higher a person educational degree the more invested opportunity to move up in the ranks in our
The significant level of outsourcing programs used across all business sectors is well documented in the literature (Bender 1999; Quinn 2000; Dun and Bradstreet 2000; Klaas, McClendon and Gainey 2001). Past research has progressed along several paths. First, some researchers have focused on motivations and reasons for outsourcing activities (Conner and Prahalad 1996; Greer et al. 1999; Sinderman 1995; Mullin 1996; Grant 1996; Frayer Scannell and Thomas 2000). According to this perspective, the global imperative for outsourcing accelerates as firms evolve from sellers of products and services abroad to setting up operations in foreign countries and staffing those operations with host countries or third party nationals (Greer et al. 1999). Most corporations believe that in order to compete globally, they have to look at efficiency and cost containment rather than relying strictly on revenue increases (Conner and Prahalad 1996). As companies seek to enhance their competitive positions in an increasingly global marketplace, they are discovering that they can cut costs and maintain quality by relying more on outside service providers for activities viewed as supplementary to their core businesses (Mullin 1996; Grant 1996).
Jay Gatsby, who lives in West Egg, best represents the need of a wealthy and lavish lifestyles. Gatsby’s overflowing amount of wealth is represented with his use of his expensive items. A description of his party states, “ On week-ends his Rolls-Royce became an omnibus, bearing parties to and from the city between nine in the morning and long past midnight, while his station wagon scampered like a brisk yellow bug to meet all trains” (Fitzgerald 39). This signifies that Gatsby’s has so much money that even the most fanciest cars he has, he uses them like taxis for people who attend his party. The numerous amount of parties Gatsby hosts also represent materialism. An article states, “Fitzgerald uses Gatsby’s elaborately staged weekend parties as another metaphor for the greed, material excess, and the unrestrained desire for pleasure that resulted in the corruption and disintegration of the American Dream” (Tunc 4). Gatsby’s big and lavish parties every weekend was the center of materialism. Some of his guest who attended did not know him or came without an invitation. Gatsby’s main purpose of these grand parties was only to impress Daisy. As previously stated, Gatsby wanted to show Daisy all the wealth he had to win her back from Tom. He uses his grand party to show off his wealth and fortune to impress Daisy. In the end, Gatsby’s materialism and wealth caused
“Gatsby buys a mansion across the bay and gives extravagant parties in the hopes that Daisy will come to one” (“The Great Gatsby”, Novels for Students). His parties were representative of “the staid nobility of the countryside-East Egg condescending to West Egg” and the power that wealth had in the distinction between lifestyles in either parts of the cities (Fitzgerald 49). Not only did Gatsby attempt to impress Daisy through his parties, but also he appealed to her materialistic lifestyle and ideals in showing her his house (95). “He revalued everything in his house according to the measure of response it drew from her well-loved eyes”
In opposed of the sophisticated people with extravagant and lazy lifestyle in the east egg who could have whatever they want because of their family background and high social status, Gatsby has a dream to chase, which sustained his hope and his life. With a dream, his life is more colorful than the others. Although Gatsby, Tom, and Daisy are all rich people, they are quite difference toward life. Holding grand parties during that time period depicted the corruption of luxury. For example, Daisy’s husband Tom holds an affair with his mistress Myrtle in an apartment, their lavish use of money in the party shows their self-indulgence of their wealth. However, Gatsby is totally different; he welcomes everyone to attend his party. His one and the only purpose of holding parties in his house is to attract his golden girl, Daisy, to make his dream come true. Gatsby himself is just alone in the mists of his party. “When the Jazz History of the World was over, girls were putting their heads on men’s shoulders in a puppyish, convivial way, girls were swooning backward playfully into men’s arms even into the groups knowing that someone would arrest their falls - but no one swooned backward on Gatsby, and
Job flooding.. Political leaders and college presidents have argued that the nation must increase the proportion of adults with college degrees in order for America to remain competitive in the global economy. The growth of college-educated labor is exceeding the growth in the demand for such labor in the labor market (Are Recent). We have been affected by degree inflation so much that the average citizen is overeducated for her position and the job market for educated workers is completely consumed up. People who spent years in school training for jobs that pay well can’t find work when they graduate. About five million college graduates are in jobs the BLS says require less than a high-school education (Savitz). Our high underemployment and un...
Outsourcing has been around for many years. In this paper I will discuss some of the history of outsourcing, the goods things about outsourcing, and the bad things about outsourcing.
Over the past decade years 200 victims have fallen due to school shootings. These numbers don’t even justify for the number of people killed in years prior to the 2000’s. Though these numbers don’t justify for the numbers of students injured or killed with other weapons, school safety is becoming a topic of discussion. As time goes on, people are bringing more attention to the subject of school safety. With the numerous school shootings in various states, lack of security in schools, and not enforcing rules for the students schools are becoming less safe.
In 2013, the U.S. Department of Education recommended expanding the lockdown-only approach for schools (i.e., confining students and staff to their rooms) to an options-based approach that allows school staff to make more independent decisions about how to protect their students depending on evolving circumstances (e.g., evacuate the building rather than stay locked in a classroom). These approaches include adapting the “Run, Hide, Fight” model that was originally developed for adults in response to workplace violence. This expansion has spurred a range of approaches to armed assailant training and an increase in the number of school districts conducting drills with varying degrees of intensity and involvement of school staff and students. In some instances, drills are conducted with insufficient consideration of the potential psychological impact or appropriateness of a particular drill based on the developmental level or psychological risk factors of participants. Many schools have begun “Active Shooter Drills.” To do this, schools must first create school safety teams that should include teachers, nurses, security personnel and local
Schools should implement more security training and more officers.Over the years, a handful of massacres that have come to define school shootings in this country are almost always remembered for the students and educators who have been kill in cold-blooded. Aforementioned created Death tolls that transpire so frequently that the numbers and places become permanently linked to the area that it occurred. What the media fail to capture, though, is the collateral damage of this uniquely American dilemma. The first incident of a school shooting was in Columbine in 1999, more than 187,000 students attending at least 193 elementary or middle schools have experienced a shooting on campus during school hours. Even if School shootings remain very rare, this represents a tiny fraction of the gun violence epidemic that has plagued the United States. On average, this leaves a child bleeding or in harsh conditions every hour in the United States. While few of those incidents happen on campuses, the ones that do have spread fear across the country, changing the culture of education and how kids grow up. Every day, threats sent classrooms into lockdowns that can frighten students, even when they turn out to be false
