The American Revolution: one of the events that had turned America to what it is today. But what caused the Revolution to happen? The Revolution started in 1775 and ended in 1783. It took place in America’s original 13 colonies, the British colonies, a nd the East Coast of America. It was the British: soldiers, redcoats, and loyalists VS the american colonists: minutemen and patriots. While there were multiple reasons why the American Revolution began, the most important reasons were Taxation without representation, unconstitutional acts of the parliament, and colonial responses against Britain. In a document on the Boston Massacre, it describes all the events in the Massacre. The document shows, “a group of young men began pelting some British soldiers with snowballs and curses.”. This quote shows how it was the colonists that started the fight. It caused the American Revolution because after the colonists attacked the British, they defended themselves and killed 5 colonists. The British killing the colonists was what started the American Revolution, so if the colonists did not attack the British thoughtlessly, than the Boston Massacre would not of happened in the first place. Also, in an eyewitness account of the Boston Tea party, it shows everything that the colonists did in the Boston Tea Party (Document 7). The document says “we had thus broken and thrown overboard every tea chest to be found in the ship, while those in the other ships were disposing of the tea in the same way.” There were many other ways the colonists could of told the British they would not pay the taxes, but they did a direct attack. The British’s punishment was placed because they knew it was the colonists during the attack. If they were a little bit more sneaky, than they could of have the same effect without having to face punishment.
