The nonprofit community that I represent is the American Red Cross. The American Red Cross has been around for centuries helping people without profit. First, a little bit of background on the American Red Cross. The American Red Cross was founded on May 21, 1881 in Washington D.C. by Clara Barton and a number of her acquaintances. Clara got her inspiration from the Swiss Global Red Cross while she was traveling in Europe. Barton brought up the idea and campaigned support for the American Red Cross during the Geneva Convention, which is a convention to support and protect those injured in the war, the American Red Cross foundation was ratified a year later in 1882. Mission Statement/Goals:
Our mission statement, “The American Red Cross prevents and alleviates human suffering in the face of emergencies by mobilizing the power of volunteers and the generosity of donors. Being there in times of need, community readiness and preparedness for disaster, and always having trained individuals nearby are all criteria that we feel necessary to be successful in our service and in following the mission statement. For the Red Cross, being there in times of need, does not simply mean arriving at the scene of a disaster and getting thithings under control, it means arriving at the scene, bebeing actively involved as soon as they arrive, getting th the women and children to safety and helping the peepeople of the community rebuild their lives. Righting the past wrongs with news articles would also be a fantastic way to get the good word out. Right now there are some opinions out there that are not all that focused on all the good the Red Cross does, it would be a good idea for the Red Cross to focus on getting the good word and reputation out there. Also conducting more CPR and first aid classes with more convenient times and prices would also be an efficient way to swing the opinions in favor of the Red Cross because it will show how much the Red Cross really does want to help. This would also go along with the advertising aspect of the Red Cross, because in order to conduct more classes, you would need to advertise them more. Another good way to ensure the termination of the issue would be to become more organized when conducting classes as well as their reports that they have been repeatedly accused of slacking off on. Organization within the Red Cross would bring back the hard working determined name that they so desperately deserve. Becoming more familiar with the community and it’s needs would do a great deal in earning back the respect of people and communities it helps. Coming to knowledge as what the communities strengths and weaknesses are would help the Red Cross when spend more
