The American Nurses Association (ANA) is an organization that represents Registered Nurses (RNs) throughout the United States. It protects the public and also holds RNs accountable for the action and care provided. For this discussion, I will explain Nursing’s Social Policy Statement for the nursing discipline, nursing practice, and societal health. I will also identify one item from the statement that will help me alter my professional behavior. I will also list goals and the steps that will be taken to reach these goals.
To me, Nursing’s Social Policy Statement means that as RNs we are responsible for the care we provide to our customers. We must meet the needs and provide safe and knowledgeable care. Nurses are held accountable for the care that is provided to help protect the public. It is our duty as RNs to continue learning and keeping up-to-date with certain policies and procedures to provide high standards of practice. As nurses, we are expected to follow our scope of practice and only practice by the skills through which we have been trained on. This helps protect society from anyone acting out of their educational level. Nursing’s Social Policy Statement aims for healthcare to prevent illness, provide awareness and education, and treat the public to treat and prevent illness. The American Nurses Association (2014), ensures that RN’s provide high-quality care, encourage RN’s rights as professionals, initiates policies, and gets approval from the Congress when the need arises (para. 3). Healthcare members are held accountable to report others that act outside of their scope of practice to prevent any harm to others.

It helps RNs become better professionally and seeks improvements in any way possible. It has personally helped me become a more respectful caregiver to my patients by viewing them as a customer and view them as an individual. I have also become a better RN and person for setting and establishing goals for myself
