The type of government in Uruguay is constitutional republic. Meaning that it is a state in which the head of state and other officials are representatives of the people. Their president is Tabaré Vázquez, and he has been in power for the past 5 years. The president exercises executive power and legislative power and it’s in the two chambers of the General Assembly of Uruguay. The president before Vázquez was José Mujica. Each president will serve a 5 year term. The president is elected by people of Uruguay. Those are some facts about Uruguay’s government. Another holiday is the Battle of Piedras Day. The Battle of Las Piedras was fought on May 18, 1811 as a part of the Uruguayan struggle for independence from Spain. It is celebrated by respecting and honoring the people that fight for their country. Those are some important holidays of Uruguay, and how they were celebrated. Some traditional food of Uruguay includes Asado and Empanada. Asado is one of the most popular foods of Uruguay. It is a type of barbeque dish for special events. In order to make this dish you will need: beef roast, salt & pepper, oil, onion, garlic, tomatoes, peppercorns, olives, bay leaves, ketchup, red bell pepper, potatoes, and corn flour. Empanada is basically a pie/turnover which is filled with beef and/or cheese. For the dough you will need: flour, baking powder, salt, sugar, egg, chicken stock, and lard.
